I need to get involved with NFL again, but need to choose a team. Was always a Dan Marino Miami Dolphins shirt wearing kid, but need some advice.

Which team is it worth following? Thinking about going down to Wembley to watch a game - anyone done it? Any help welcomed. Could just stick with the Dolphins and get tickets off Stub Hub for their game against New York Jets the day after the QPR game.

Which are the Liverpool/Man Utd of the NFL world to avoid?

Traf and I are part of a rather gay group of Sunday night facebook fwends who all provide a running commentary on the games.

We've all just bought some NFL shirts from China for £20 each (proper ones too apparently, we'll see)

If you're fwends with Traf (you've ignored my request) it can be a lot of Tom Fun

I haven't ignored you, but you didn't turn up on Sunday.

As for those snide shirts, I won't be having one of those.

here's the draft order, and team needs

basically the shitest team gets to pick the best player from the college game

With the browns picking first I want to see all the players going out their way to appear like they suck, to avoid their career being destroyed before it begins.

The combine will be blokes moonwalking the 40yd dash.

Just checked that draft link

What's the deal with the Tennessee Titans changing from the Los Angeles RAM's? I thought LA hadn't had an NFL team for years?

EDIT - Also what's the deals with the AFC leagues and NFC leagues? I appreciate that in Baseball its down to rules (does the pitcher need to bat), is it similar in NFL

No the rules are the same in the AFC and NFC, and apart from the designated hitter rule, the rules are the same in baseball for both leagues

Whats the difference then or are they just groups? Do the groups ever change as franchises move about?

the winners of the AFC and nfc play each other in the superbowl.

Each conference is split in to 4 divisions, north, south, East and west.

The winners of each division and the 2 with the best record of the rest go in to the play offs.

Can you swap players for picks then??

I think what birch is getting at, is what's the history that leads to afc and nfc

I've decided to adopt a team and it's the new York jets

This decision is based on no logic, not knowing if they are any good other than the like the green colour of their kit

Plus I reckon Giants fans are cunts. There is no basis for this judgement either

Welcome to the nightmare.

The Jets are epically unpredictable. Mainly shit.

You've subconsciously picked the team most like Bolton.

Can you swap players for picks then??

Yes, the better the player then the earlier the pick you can get.

You can also swap picks for other picks.

So if Baltimore had a player they really wanted they could offer Cleveland a few picks in exchange for the 1st pick.

There used to be 2 leagues the NFL and AFL they merged to become the one league.

Has it always been like this?

For a long time it was the only way players could move teams. Until the advent of free agency and the salary cap.

So

Reading that Tom Brady was the 199th player to be picked when he came through

Guessing he didn't show much early promise

Wasn't Flash Gordon quarter back for the Jets?  Surely they must have been good when he did?

Not sure what that bit about the rams means but I do know the titans used to be the Houston oilers

When I was in nashville and memphis last year got talking to fans about this as was asking if they claim the history of the oilers as there own and shit like that

Most weren't arsed and were just happy to now have a local football team to support and that's just how the nfl works now

Wonder if old Houston oilers fans are now ardent texan fans

Edit: so the reference to the rams was they traded a pick, the rest makes zero sense to me

Didn't do much at Michigan so wasn't really highly graded. Got his chance due to injury and hasn't looked back.

There's a few players that went undrafted and went on to have Hall Of Fame careers.

Reet, a 20 year old kid who never went to college, never played before, he's spotted with his mates on the park

Can a team just sign him

Didn't thst happen to a lad from Manchester?

Friend of a friend knew of a lad who was on chelsea's books as a kepeer; didn't make it and ended up being a kicker over there as he was good at kicking

Something like that

Didn't thst happen to a lad from Manchester?

Menelik Watson?

He went to Florida State.

But aye, I'm pretty sure they can sign who they want.

So these quarter backs. Are they just good at throwing?

Like the best a cob at school?

So these quarter backs. Are they just good at throwing?

Like the best a cob at school?

Well yes they are.

But there's a lot more to it.

They call most of the plays based on how they are seeing the opposition performing, and how they line up at each down.

Throwing is just a part of the job. That, and banging most of the cheerleaders

Did you see the nfl show last week when they did a peice on the atlanta qb and how they communicate the plays?

Throwing is the least of their worries

The one with Matt Ryan and his coach?

It was brilliant. Learning all the codes, plays and phrases - then having to come up with something on the fly when their defence susses you out, whilst a 27 stone lineman comes barrelling towards you.
