It's ok, he's cleared it all up

President Donald Trump, facing an onslaught of bipartisan fury over his glowing remarks about Vladimir Putin, said more than 24 hours afterward that he had misspoken during his news conference with the autocratic Russian leader.

In one of the only times of his presidency he's admitted to a mistake, Trump said that when he returned Monday from the summit with Putin in Helsinki, Finland, he "realized there is some need for clarification" about his remarks on Russian interference in the 2016 US election.

"In a key sentence in my remarks I said the word 'would' instead of 'wouldn't,' " Trump said Tuesday. He explained he had reviewed a transcript and video of his remarks.

"The sentence should have been: 'I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia,' " he said. "Sort of a double negative."

During Monday's news conference, Trump said, "I don't see any reason why it would be" Russia who interfered in the election.

Clutching at straws i see. I'll leave you to let you convince yourself you are right

Hardly ...no chance of a deal and probably no deal are two different meanings, you can try and twist the words to suit yourself if you like however they still have different meanings.

On this day, 18th July 1925, the first edition of Mein Kampf was published.

The author Adolf Hitler, gave clear warnings in passages of the book of a certain genocide act which was to follow.

Anyone comparing Trump to Adolf Hitler should be ashamed of themselves.

Hitler’s book was a clear warning from history.

I find it all a bit weird that a foreign president has fanboys.

Bit of a simpletons comment that Mick and well below your capabilities.

There are no 'fanboys' simply people who are sick to the back teeth of sheep who follow the rantings of the celebs and liberal left with little or no understanding of what they are actually 'hating' and why. This is not levelled at the vast majority on here I might add - more the moronic airheads they interview on the marches who have absolutely no idea why they are doing it.

I would say there are some folk who think that he has not been given a fair go because of shite dredged up by Clinton and her supporters during the election campaign. Those same people have the impulse to defend the bloke in the face of oft mindless hatred  based on the bitter words of celebs they admire.

In my case it's a case of the slightly mad bloke we had to have to shake things up and get career politicians/snout in the troughers/protected criminals out of their comfortable rut from which they milk us dry. If the net result of this is a rolling back of some of the extremes of political correctness and the end of folk like the crooked Clinton's then I will be satisfied that his tenure did some good. If, however, we face nuclear oblivion because of him then I'll tell you that you were right if we are ever reconstituted in a few million years time. By the time he is finished, I am expecting the word to be a safer place.

He's not Hitler. But a lot of the language and rhetoric he and his supporters use isn't all that far from the rhetoric and language used by Hitler and other far right Aryans in the 1920's.

In the same way sections of our society and media discuss Muslims, funnily enough.

There are similarities that absolutely draw comparison. Doesn't mean there will be mass genocide. Just that there are warning signs flashing amber.

So your views on this Putin business and his bullshit back pedal?

By ignoring or slapping down increasing rhetoric from disgruntled folk only increases more extreme views though.

Some of the fundamental issues that saw him elected are mirrored in Europe.

I dislike the bloke but failing to acknowledge him and recognise issues is pure folly.

History tells us that tolerating or appeasing those views ends in disaster...

This.

The last thing the world needs now, or ever, is more division.

If folk are worried, rightly or wrongly, about immigration, terrorism and such it's not really wise to dismiss fears of large swathes of people and ridicule them - even going as far as labeling them racists/xenophobes.  Better to acknowledge and openly discuss.

Trump, like any good businessman, saw an opportunity and took it.

It tells us that ignoring the feelings of your population ends in disaster.

Nothing to do with tolerating extreme views; it's exploring the reasons why they emerge, and where there is just cause doing something about it.

Taking some sort of moral high ground and decrying folks beliefs just puts you and the nation in a more unstable situation.

There are multiple problems though. You say "ignoring" the feelings of your population ends in disaster. I agree. But pandering to what people think is the problem doesn't fix the underlying issues.

Classic example, the EU is blamed for all ills, predominantly by working class people in midland and Northern towns. They do have grievances but the EU is on the whole not the source of them and leaving it will disadvantage those communities further. How do you address that? Those communities have been left behind by 30 plus odd years of rampant free market capitalism with governments making no attempts to try and fix the underlying problems. What many of those communities need is a redistribution of money that flows into London into those places. Ironically something that the EU does far better than we do. But then we get involved and balls it up.
