Grand National

I've backed Gallant Oscar @20/1 and Holywell @16/1 both to win. Apparently its all about the stats and these two fit the criteria. What's everyone backing?

If you are going to do that then make sure first that they are not a pony, we don't want another Adam Johnson on our hands

I'd have thought the National was one of the races where stats went straight out of the window.

I'm on this beast E/W at 50/1

Just A Par

Jockey: S Bowen Trainer: P Nicholls Age: Nine Weight: 10st 6lb

Produced an extraordinary finish to win the Bet365 Gold Cup last year, beating Vics Canvas and Le Reve, seeming to relish the marathon distance. Fairly handicapped on 7lb higher now and easy to imagine a similar effort carrying him into the argument, although horses that need extreme hold-up tactics can get into trouble in Grand Nationals. First two (weak) runs this season came at a time when the stable was faring poorly. Back to form last month with a second place at Exeter, giving a stone to the winner and without usual blinkers.

I usually back 5, 2 of which I think about firm etc, 3 where I just like the name. I've had more luck in the past with the latter.

Not decided on other 3 yet

You should be backing Many Clouds

After all, it won the race you're betting on.

Their are some trends that you see over time in the GN

For instance age of horse - 9-11 is the sweet spot, not many older or younger win

Also weight - not many win carrying 11st 6 or above

However last year many clouds defied both of the above so it must have been doing something right

I'm on just a par as well at 50's - not decided the rest yet

For those wanting a punt on a horse with a Wanderers Ways connection would do worse than looking at Garage Dwarf Sex Pest @ 33/1

In no particular order

The Druid's Nephew

Sir Des Champs

Aachen

The Last Samuri

Avoid these as I'm betting on them, so this means they'll all probably die or break legs or both

Sir Des Champs for me.

Bet365 are refunding half your stake on each way bets as well. Which is nice of them.

All about goonyella

Some mad bloke in town today told me he'd sold one of his kidneys to lump on it.

Worrying thing is he was as yellow as Homer Simpson and was wearing an oxygen tank on his back with tubes up his nose like the kid on ET.

Sir Des Champs for me.

Smoke and mirrors

Your better off with bet victor who are paying out EW 1-6 vs BET365's 1-5

Gallant Oscar

Did they not run last year

Ha ha piss off

Wonder why they call it Ladies Day?
