Breightmet Boy Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Franks daughter Kim has just put it on Facebook that he's had Alzheimer's for 6 years now. Sad, as my owd fella has dementia I can only feel sad for the great and his family Quote
Guest Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Yes, very sad But, he achieved some great things and gave us wonderful memories Seize the day Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Franks daughter Kim has just put it on Facebook that he's had Alzheimer's for 6 years now. Sad, as my owd fella has dementia I can only feel sad for the great and his family Even more credit to the great fella. Last man away from Nat's funeral, talking to anyone and signing autographs with frozen fingers. Keep strong! Quote
MancWanderer Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 So sad. My all-time hero for BWFC Met him loads of times as a kid as he was good friends with my parents' neighbours Met him again a few years ago at a dinner and he remembered me - nearly fucking passed out!!!! I'd read it that he's got dementia rather than Alzheimers. I stand corrected if I'm wrong Quote
Carlos Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I reckon his own actual daughter would have an idea really. Know him, I'm in his actual autobiography. Quote
Breightmet Boy Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 Yes, very sad But, he achieved some great things and gave us wonderful memories Seize the day That's what I put on her Facebook page, the joy as a kid he put on my face. Couldn't put anything else, it's a horrible disease and no matter what anybody could say, I don't think it could comfort her. Sorry for the negativity, but there's no positives with this Quote
Mounts Kipper Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 my ultimate football hero I met him on a number of occasions and wasn't disappointed a really friendly bloke and time for everyone. He's lived an unbelievable life to the max, talented does not adequately sum him up a player in the top echelons of football ability a supremely skillful and talented player. Quote
plodwhite Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 He was and still is my all time football hero going to watch Bolton when he played was a joy, my mum suffered from this horrible illness my thoughts are with him Quote
leigh white Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Great memories of Frankie over the years watching him play for us and numerous clubs. Sat next to him at a Huddersfield v Peterborough play off game at Leeds Road and had a great laugh with him.Top bloke. Quote
MancWanderer Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I'd read it that he's got dementia rather than Alzheimers. I stand corrected if I'm wrong I stand corrected. It is Alzheimer's. That's awful. My late Dad had vascular dementia. He could describe everything about the 53 and 58 cup finals but had no idea that I'd made him a brew 5 minutes previously. His brother has Alzheimer's and has no idea who I am. Both versions of dementia terrible but Alzheimer's robs you of your life basically!! Quote
Zico Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Shush shush Thanks lads Am I talking to myself? Shush Thanks lads Quote
Salford Trotter Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I'd heard a few years ago that he was struggling with that dreadful disease and I wish him, as we all do, a comfortable life with his family. I remember being in the picture of the Burden Terrace in The Shoot magazine after his infamous Ipswich goal in '79.....take care Frankie Quote
Rembrandt Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 There's not much to add to the above comments about a gifted player and a Whites' legend other than to wish him & his family well in this difficult time. Quote
Ani Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Maybe a loud 'Franky franky' after 10 minutes at Fulham ? Quote
bolty58 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 What sad news. A true legend and not just a Bolton one. Always called him The Fonz when he was with us. I also always remember Selwyn Froggatt following him everywhere just to watch him play. I can only hope that he has as much peace and comfort as possible. A truly unforgettable football genius. Quote
Guest Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I hear what people say about "that" goal, but it was "that" night which will be my undying memory Quote
Salford Trotter Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I hear what people say about "that" goal, but it was "that" night which will be my undying memory +1 THE best atmosphere at any away football game i have ever been to...it was like a home game Quote
frank_spencer Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 The story of him ditching his sponsor given Lada at the front doors of Manchester Airport (with doors left open and engine running) on his way to the States is one of my all time favourites. Zlatan and Baloteli have nowt on Frankie Quote
Cheese Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Me and my dad bumped into him outside the club shop after the last ever game at Burnden. I was in awe, even though I only knew who he was from my dads stories and some old newspaper cuttings. Legend. Best wishes to him and his family. Quote
bwfc2003 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I hear what people say about "that" goal, but it was "that" night which will be my undying memory And dont forget his 2 winning doubles against the filth Quote
freds dad Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 It would be good to see him do a half time appearance at next weeks legends match. Quote
RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Met him in a bookies in Manchester a few years ago, top bloke & my all time Wanderers hero. Quote
frankietheman Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I can't add anything extra to what has already been written here except send him every good wish and remember that he was worth the admission money alone when he played for us in the late seventies. Peerless. Quote
Walkden White Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 Can only echo what's been said. A horrible illness. Just watching Frankie warm up was almost worth the admission. As a youngster hadn't seen anyone else do tricks like that. Can't think of anyone else who had such an impact on our club in such a relatively short space of time. Quote
