October 29, 20169 yr GM still exists As much as you want to deny it, it does For me Greater Manchester is just an admin district so we can have a more efficient fire,ambulance and police service. Especially as the actual GM Council is long gone. Bolton will always be Lancashire for me and I don't care what any wind up merchants or folk who live in the unchanged parts of historic Lancashire say. GM was never meant to replace the old county of Lancashire so they said at the time. Should Lancashire Cricket Club have moved north? We laugh at Bury fans for saying they are part of Manchester because it shows they have no pride/identity with their hometown and yet some of us don't mind being swallowed up by Greater Manchester? Nothing against Manchester, love the place but Bolton is Bolton Lancs. (Amazon put that on my address and if it's good enough for them!)

October 29, 20169 yr Correct postal addresses now do not have a county at all. For the obvious reasons that it is no help since various counties are quoted for the same place. And the Postcode gives a definitive answer for sorting purposes, whether mechanical or manual.
