TrickyTrotter Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Harrington played a week ago in the FA CUP 3rd round and played in the 2nd round. Same as Miller really. No reason if he is in training today he shouldn't be good to go Saturday. Quote

TSL and Miller were fairly shite so if these two are competent then that'd be an upgrade. I am a bit skeptical of how highly rated Harrington could possibly be if he can't get a game for the 13th best team in League Two. But we'll see. Quote
Popular Post barrycowdrill Posted January 15 Popular Post Posted January 15 Interesting content in the Iles article today around unrest, discontent, etc etc also pretty much confirmed TSL spat his dummy out after being dropped SS might be struggling to reign them in at the minute which is obviously impacting on performance so he needs to get rid of the mouthy bastards who have done five fifths of fuck all on the pitch recently to justify what they think they deserve Quote

I don't think they just did a raffle on local keepers. I get that to a extent, but one min he is saying we need to make the squad leaner.......We are now out of all cups yet we have 4 keepers contracted for next season. One a journey man and three unproven above lge 2 No need what so ever to commit four keepers to be contracted next season who are untested Quote

I'm not sure what other keepers were available to purchase but I doubt the club have turned any better ones down for these two. It is what it is and quite unique situation. It's not the clubs fault TSL is a massive fucking ponce and can't handle being shouted at or dropped. It's not the clubs fault Miller has been offered a job back in his home country and not having to deal with a January in Bolton in division 3. Time will tell if the new lads are good enough but what else could the club do other than bring in two lads the hierarchy are familiar with. Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Both goalies (if we bring in Fleetwood second choice) haven’t played a league game for over a year - what is going on with this recruitment lot Quote

We only had to bring one in and not two....Broome for the bench until May then re-visit for the 25/26 season but now we have commited for next season when there was no need to Quote

Folk can't wait to jump all over things but don't have any answers themselves. I can't imagine there's a massive list of available first team league 1 standard goalkeepers kicking about. These two lads have worked with people at the club before and one in particular sounds like he's pretty well thought of. I really don't get the big problem unless folk have any other keepers in mind we didn't go for. Quote
jmjhb Posted January 15 Posted January 15 (edited) Looking at loans of younger keepers in League One this year, they've frankly all been bobbins. Cooper, Goodman and TSL all sent back, as well as Simkin. Probably because they're all being coached for 'distribution' these days and not actually shot-stopping. Perhaps now we'll see some investment in defence as opposed to an expensive keeper. All you need to do well is a functional goalkeeper and a strong defence tbh. Edited January 15 by jmjhb Quote

The 4 Keepers may not count to the match day squad but they still have to be paid so like others I’m unsure why we needed two further keepers. In desperate straits if Broome and Hutch aren’t up to it we could have used the emergency loan option and invested the wages elsewhere. Quote

Broome was only ever meant to be 3rd keeper and hutch is an academy grad out on loan. Edited January 15 by gonzo Quote

I’d add to that, that his 3 main signings 4 if you include TSL have been a real disappointment. People can blame the recruitment method and it may need looking at but the fact is the spine of our team hasn’t progressed the way we’d hoped. Quote
SalCity Biggie Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I don't mind the idea of getting a second choice keeper in from a higher league to be the number one, but I don't understand trying to sign a player, regardless of position who is a back up in a lower league or at a lower level. Quote
