Scottish or Scots, Scotch is a drink. 🙂

FFS. This isn't Behind The Stands. Most folk come on here to read bullshit rumours and conjecture, with the odd bit of accurate stuff thrown in. It's boring as fuck reading your personal squabbles.

We've just won promotion using a gaggle of players nobody else wanted, littered with injury plagued loanees and players that were cast as cart horses, one trick ponies and generally weak as piss.

i presume that means most clubs can't go through with the deal

Wasn't he just coming back from very bad ankle injury

Aye,. I agree.. But new season / clean slate and all that(?)

I just think there's got to be a middle ground in between writing players off forever and a Men In Black style mind wipe of everything we've seen them do before.

McAtee and Gale will both start on Saturday. If they play well again, brilliant. If they don't, chances are last week was the anomaly. And they won't get as many chances from SS as the likes of Sheehan or Dalby will, because they don't have the same credit in the bank. This is their chance and they need to take it.

i think it was the one hed already come back from

before we got him

while it clearly didn't stop him being a spacial player, the medics couldn't sign off on him

not at 4 or 5 million quid, anyway

Gardner pretty much retired after he finished here didn't he? - so not sure we missed out on a bumper transfer fee

Davies was about 35 when he left us for Preston, so again, I'm not sure we could/should have been expecting any sort of fee

Granted, some of our transfer dealings have been poor, but you can say that about any club I'd have thought.

Getting £6M for Madine, £3.5M for Ricketts and £3M for Clough, all proved, in hindsight, to be excellent pieces of business

I'm not claiming we do or don't get value from players just that that was the point being made

Shades of Peter Reid. All set for a £700k move in the late 70s (when the record was £1m) and got injured. Ended up leaving for £60k, returned to full fitness and won the league, cup and lots of England caps.

That was when he was at PSV and played alongside Ronaldo (the original one)

They released him as a result and went back to Iceland to resurrect his career

Whish is where we picked him up from

I've exceeded my comments on McAtee, this is a general point: Away games when our best players didn't play well last season, and I'm being polite: Barnsley, Northampton, Burton, Mansfield (we won), Wycombe, Doncaster, Peterboro, Rotherham, Port Vale, Cardiff.

So I won't be judging our players in away games in the championship, if we'd judged them in L1 away games most of them would have got sold in January without having the chance to get to the play offs.

We played badly in away games last season... therefore there should be no ambition to play better in away games in this or any future season?

We've obviously played well in away games in the past. It's possible. We might need new players to do it, but it is possible and (especially at the start of the season) it shouldn't be an unrealistic ambition.

Yep.

Accepting mediocrity (at best) before the season is going is a recipe for disaster.

Everyone must strive for better.

Understanding that things may well be difficult, and not getting into a doom loop, is something else.

Crikey, go back even farther than that and look at the pittance we got for Franny Lee from City.

We got £65k for Lee.

At that time the UK record fee was Liverpool paying £96k for Tony Hateley.

We received, to all intents, ⅔ of that record fee. Extrapolate that to today where the record UK fee is Isak's £125m. ⅔ of that would be £82.5m. That's not peanuts.

The sinful thing is that we took that money, added to it, and used it to buy Gareth Williams from Cardiff for £45k and Terry Wharton from Wolves for £70k.

More sinful still I think was that Terry Wharton was previously a make weight in a proposed deal for Frannie to Wolves then as you say we ended up paying more for him than we actually got from City. Madness.

aye, as said in last paragraph, if it's a case of one in one out, fair enough I guess

Isn’t Hardie more of a 10 than a 9?

If your next sentence involves "false" or "running into channels" I may have to attack someone.

You talk like a 9 and a 10 aren't two completely different positions.

It's really not a new phenomenon or some new fandangled terminology.

Not sure of the significance of ambition in this discussion.

You said if McAtee and Gale play badly at QPR, chances are last week was an anomaly.

I'm saying if they play badly on Saturday, its no more significant than them playing well the week before, because we do a lot of playing badly away (as do PNE if last week was anything to go by).

£4m for Arnar Gunlaugsson was good business in 99 or whatever

am sure he was more like 2.5m

still a decent profit

That's what I've read. 2 years after we paid £100k.

I had no idea he is now the Iceland national manager.

We have the most deluded fan base going. Mcatee has had one good game and suddenly we have to keep him. Hes been awful and has one year left on his contract. Everyone would have sold him before sat.

Fan base needs to wake up rather than seeing everything game by game. It’ll be a long season otherwise. Watch us lose Saturday and everyone lose their heads.

Thought he was brilliant first half Saturday but back to his usual cac second half; should sell him

We really don’t. The reactionary behaviour week after week is ridiculous but happens at every club all over the country.

People should spend a bit of time checking other clubs' timlines

They're just the same as ours, and often worse
