August 17Aug 17 Author McAtee as lost a load of weight looking at him.Maybe he's realised its time to do what he obviously has the potential to do
August 17Aug 17 Assume it'll take a bid of £10m+ to get ACD, it'll either be a recently relegated Prem side like a Burnley or he'll go to Germany for a year or two. If that doesn't happen I think there's a slim chance we get him on loan again for the year, probably deadline day.

As the old saying goes if ifs and ands ……….. If we can recover our costs I’d snap a buyers hands off.Birmingham and Orient at home (admittedly season before last but 2 big games at the time that he turned). Barnsley home, Wimbledon away, Bradford away, Stockport at Wembley. He's hardly started any games last 18 months and can have his sending off thrown at him, but I'm struggling to think of more than 1 or 2 games he started when he didn't play similar to Saturday. And when he comes on in league games he nearly always makes a positive impact.FWIW I think his performance v PNE has been exaggerated because there was a perception he's crap. He was decent without being outstanding, eg that volley at goal 2nd half was OK but was arguably a wasted opportunity. He made a few infuriating errors, hence we can sign better if we want to pay for it.But his standard on Saturday was just his normal level, it shouldn't be either exaggerated or taken as a one off, he's not Apter or Randall.

August 17Aug 17 I don't actually think there's any interest from Championship clubs in McAtee, I'm not sure why there would be. He had a great game at the weekend but this just seems to me to be an agent trying to capitalise on a well timed uptick in his perception to either get a new contract or get himself a tidy fee for a transfer.I've heard that after promotion he's on around £12.5k a week now, so you'd be hard pressed to find a club willing to get anywhere close to that for him, but he's of an age now where a multi year deal is more valuable than the sun total of his contract with us this season. For what it's worth, if keep him until January given the makeup of the squad and I genuinely do just like the fella and feel he brings something to the team that very few others do (especially among the forwards) with his pressing and work rate, but in the same breath I'd still be actively looking to find a replacement/upgrade to bring in this window.

Maybe you’re just seeing what you want to see, something we’re all guilty of when we like a player. For the money he’s on plus the decent fee we’d possibly recover for him it would be foolish not to cash in. He’ll never be a match winner or even a match turner I’m afraid however much we want him to. If a decent offer comes in then I’d move him on because there are much better and more consistent performers out there that we could sign instead.

I just want what's best for the team and have no interest in sticking up for this player or that. There are a few players I really rate (eg Conway, Sheehan, ACD) and without exception if they have a bad game, which all 3 did last season a few times, I say they've had a bad 'un.I even criticised Kieran Lee once.

If they're chucking silly offers around, then Brighton may well be able to squeeze even more out of them.
August 17Aug 17 Let's not forget Brighton are easily the best selling club in the land. Some of the figures they've managed to blag mainly off Chelsea are incredible. They rarely get much wrong.

They were miles off it for 70 odd minutes, didn't press us with any urgency, allowed us to get out of defensive situations and move the ball through the thirds easily. Very little of our build up play was made under any great pressure. McAtee certainly had, for him, a welcome productive day, good on him for that. It wasn't one though that meant his long term limitations should be glossed over.

And had some players that wouldn't have got in our team in L1 eg their RB.The long term limitations applies to every player though. If that wasn't the case, we'd be expecting Conway, Gale, EE and Sheehan to waltz through another 45 championship games, if fit. McAtee just seems to be regarded differently, there's always an asterisk next to any perceived improved games.
August 17Aug 17 My View is that although Preston don't come close to setting a championship it showed McAtee had lost tons of weight, looked sharp and found some excellent balls though, weighted to perfection like the one at Bradford. We are going to spend large parts of this season bang under the cosh and playing on the counter. He's perfect for those scenarios as he will always run and harras players all over the pitch like a man possessed. Those quick fire lay ons to the wingers could come in extremely handy. He's your perfect last 20 man when you need digging out the shit
August 17Aug 17 13 minutes ago, gonzo said:He's your perfect last 20 man when you need digging out the shitWouldn't disagree with that, if he hadnt started but come on with 20 left on Sat he'd have done a solid job of keeping the ball up their end and we might have been under less pressure at the end. I do think though that on some sub occasions he charges around like a headless chicken, whereas on Saturday, starting the game meant he got into the pace of it more easily and was effective
August 17Aug 17 Reality is he got 3 assists, albeit one of the goals was disallowed..That's what other managers will see, he's clearly trained hard over the summer, seen his chance and gone for it. I'd be tempted to sit him down and say something along the lines of "Another game like that and we'll sit down and talk extensions, otherwise the only people after you would be League one"

August 17Aug 17 Think I mentioned a while ago not to write off McAtee and that he'd knuckled down and was living the life etc etcApparently Wembley lit a fire in his belly, he's properly looking after himself and trying his hardest at everything, maybe we'll get the benefit and he'll live up to the massive potential he had when he was younger, literally could be like a new signing!Or he could get drunk and go back to finding fake aftershave

You can always get pissed and eat shit food once you retire loads of time for all of that

This gives us the slim chance. I think if they get to £10 though Brighton cash in.
