looks like Amadou Bakayoko from Coventry will be the next through the door......Quality if true

Not really getting a wiggle over that one but stats aren’t everything

Not prolific though ... 9 in 98 for Walsall, 11 in 68 for Coventry. But certainly a positive in the 3rd Division.

Not a "goalscorer" looking at his record but IE said he needs a forward who can do the physical hold up play.  Looks very left footed which adds something we are short of up front too.  Maybe an upgrade/alternative to Delfouneso.

He’s still lives local , he’s a club legend up there and his lad also played for Barrow until recently.

One of my mates is from Barrow, doesnt rate him! Says hes to small and doesnt command his area. He does say though he is well thought of on their local forums.

Yes but the average man in Barrow is 6ft 10, with one very large left eye.

"In Evatt we trust" & all that, but I'm still convinced that goalkeeper is a real blind spot to Evatt.

Dixon may turn out to be a good keeper but after choosing Crellin & then taking 20 games to change him out. Having no reserve ... his 'reserve' of Gilks, as good as it turned out, wasn't match fit at that time. No other reserve. Not signing another proper one in January and then most often no keeper on the bench ... now a one league season 27yr old keeper from Barrow.

I can't believe more highly capable ones haven't been available.

Anyway, he's ours now, so "Yay. Welcome Joel".

This Crellin thing, he was abysmal, Gilks recommended him but Tobias left us with no alternative, no squad places left and out of the transfer window. His final games were an embarrassment and I did feel sorry for him, I doubt he will recover from it. Gilks wasn't fit enough to play and they took a few weeks to get him into some shape. Did our manager have any other option but to stick with him?

Precisely.

Evatt got it right ... eventually. Gilks was a revelation ... once fit. More on his on-field direction/coaching than shot stopping/cross catching per-se.

But it remains that the whole Crellin think damn near dishevelled everything and took him far too long to recognise & alter.

Apparently a striker, but 1 in 7?

Coventry fans seem to rate him?

Seeing as theres the walsall connection...

Take out ricketts time with us and hes all but 1 in 7, too

I think from evatts comments hes not seen as a goals or nothing signing

Did it?

Nantwich gives the other view

And I have a further view:

Gilks, not expecting to appear in any games in front of either of the other two GKs had not bothered, alongside his agent, to negotiate appearance fees.

Once the club realised Crellin wasn’t going to improve and the other lad was too young (the club didn’t want to break another young keeper) it was down to Gilks to go in the goals.
