Used to be a pain with flights from Manchester but believe Thomas Cook do Manchester to LA & San Fran as well now for reasonable money

 

They have also started doing Manchester to Cape Town in the Winter as well, it's on my list

I've just got back from two weeks cruising the Caribbean. I really enjoy the concept and I think it works especially well for places such as the Caribbean as many of the islands are smaller so can be done in a day. It also gives you the option of beach days or doing a bit of a tour of the island. I've done a Med cruise and didn't really enjoy the ports of call as much as they are generally too far from the city and don't give enough time in each place.

 

I was skeptical but would advise anyone to give it a go.

 

The choice of company and ship is always quite important but that's down to each individual's taste. I've done NCL once and P&O twice. For me the American ships offer more "fun" but some like the British feel and the sort of home away from home that P&O offer.

I'm itching to get back to California. £499 flights with Thomas Cook I think. And I know Virgin are starting direct flights from Manchester to SF from around April.

 

PS. Too much sugar in jam and carbs in the bread. You need to avoid!!!!

Finally got my first booking under the belt.

3 nights in Madeira. 5 star hotel B&B, under £250 for 2 of us including flights.

Could've gone All-Inc for about £190 for the 2 of us, but looked a bit shit.

I'm itching to get back to California. £499 flights with Thomas Cook I think. And I know Virgin are starting direct flights from Manchester to SF from around April.

The amount of jam on a slice of bread- kinell you'll get more calories in your in flight meal and drinks.

I could happily retire to France, especially the South, Juan Le Pins is fantastic (that whole area is to be fair)

Only over to Normandy to a little town there that we like, we take the dog with us, so don't really like a long drive once we pop out of the tunnel, and the Normandy beaches are just fantastic. The people there are great as well, which always helps

 

I agree with you about France in general, we went last year, and have been looking at places there already, you can get some decent properties for not a great deal of money (in comparison to here). We really fancy buying a holiday/retirement place out there in the next few years

We have just come back from the Alps and are back there in March, did Le Crotoy in Northern France last summer loved it miles of beach as you say you can take the dog with you.

A mate of mine has just bought a place in Gruissan on the south coast and now he has retired spends about half of his time out there. With only a couple of ex pats in the town it that makes him and his mrs have to learn the lingo which is exactly what he hoped for.

I'm saving for a holiday home. Currently it will be Spain over France for me but I really like France as well

Fancy French although my Mrs gets by in Spanish. She was fluent having lived in San Sebastián for her ERASMUS year, as she hasn't kept it up she's lost it a bit
