AirBnB? I've heard it's the future

We love it mate...thinking about taking a 3 bed apt in NYC next December for the family (x6) for about $200 a night when you could pay that for one room in a hotel that sleeps just 2. So it offers really good value

That train trip sounds right up my street, never thought about doing it all on rail but I'd imagine mainland Europe is well connected

Good work

Trains are great in Europe. Went on the interail website, all sorts of different tickets you can get. I've paid 515 euros each for 1st class travel on any 15 days within a month. Great value really considering the miles we are covering. Taking in some of the scenic routes rather than quickest.

Unless you are staying longer than 30 nights which I guess you are not then think again; it is illegal to rent out an apartment in NYC for less than a month. So you could turn up and find yourself without anywhere to stay and there is nothing you can do about it.

Perth Darwin Melbourne Sydney and Brisbane for rugby league world cup, with first ashes test thrown in with a week on gold coast somewhere in between.

Imagine the holidays you can have when the building trade picks up...

May depend if they pay hotel tax or not

Hotels were kicking off over that thst air bnbers didn't pay it despite offering the same service and were taking their business

So now they are meant to

Whether they do or not is a different matter

When we were over there, admittedly not in nyc, only one out of 5 places we stayed added it on to the price, was about 17%

The others either absorbed it into the price or didn't bother

I believe it is a specific NYC thing, it is simply illegal full stop to rent out an apartment for less that 30 days. There are a ton of other rules and regs too so if someone somehow gets around that one they can pull them up on another.

I've got a week off at the end of January which is an unbelievably shit time. Any suggestions on where I could go for a couple of days? Mrs and little one would be staying at home. Was thinking about Berlin maybe?

Gibraltar

The less than 30 days thing has been around for donkeys years.

The airbnb law was only recently brought in but the authorities aren't enforcing it as airbnb have challenged its legality. This law only covers the advertising of rentals which hits airbnb hard and is why they are fighting it, the law preventing short term rentals is still in place.

Mrs ST and I are off to Lanzarote in 2 weeks and at flights @ £58 return each and the whole week for two us costing less than £350 (ecxl food n drinks) then its a no brainer. AirBnB is the future

Going to Lanzarote in 2 weeks, return flights for £58 and AirBnB for £40 per night in an apartment in Puerta Del Carmen. Cheap as chips but 22 degrees and just what the Dr ordered post Christmas

Was just being a prick because you probably didn't remember posting last night ????

I've used it a few times and not had a bad experience either. Going to Sagres in Portugal in June; cheap Ryanair flights and a week in a beachside flat for £52 a night, job done

There is some talk about that restriction but i hear AirBnB are taking it to court. Barcelona and other european cities are doing the same too. Let's see how it goes

Good summary miamiwhite. I've been 4 time and got married to Priscilla there. I just love the place. Hire a jeep and wonder over to the Atlantic coast which is total contrast to the West Coast. Enjoy mate

Aye, I hired one of those mini mokes and ventured over there. Bathsheba is excellent on the east coast.

Felt like Tattoo from Fantasy Island driving that mini moke.

Last year I was lucky enough to get mixed up in the Independence Anniversary Celebrations up at the Garrison.

Great place, very chilled, locals are ultra laid back and very safe.

Another one for Lanzarote. Going end of this month. Cheap flights and expensive hotel.

Also it's the missus and my 25 anniversary in june so were off to San francisco and vineyards etc for special treat. Business class on air chance.

Then it's her 50th in july so it's House of Tides which is same price as a fuckin holiday.

Egg butties for the rest of the year.

The restriction is still in place it is just the advertising of the rentals that airbnb are challenging as unlawful. You could be fine but it is a risk as any apartment you may book is illegal in NYC.

One of my friends stayed in an AirBnB place in NY a few weeks ago, she didn't mention any issues  -  I'll ask her about it though
