Football Chants

I am doing some of research of behalf of my daughter (genuine reason for this i promise) and wondered if the good members of WWays would help....

What do football fans think is the most powerful chant in football? What about the Icelandic chant? Would you consider it acceptable if England fans copied that chant for their own?

I wouldn't like us to do that chant. It quite clearly an Iceland thing and I think we'd look like divs copying it.

I always like it when our fans sing the national anthem during the game.

We keep chickens in our back yard

We feed em on Indian corn

But one's a bugger, for giving the other

A piggy back over the wall.

We're the Barmy Bolton Army, na,na,na,na,na,na

(i wish)

The national anthem isn't a chant though. Chants are off the cuff, and off the terraces, syncronised howling.

I like the Icelandic chant. I don't think England fans should do it. Not sure if true but I've been told it's a motherwell chant that visiting Icelandic fans copied.

Then most powerful was in the old days:

"you're going to get your fucking heads kicked in,

you're going to get your fucking heads kicked in,

you're going to get your fucking heads kicked in..."

put the fear of God into away fans, and me when I was an away fan.

If it involves a bit of humour then the favourite I heard of when a team (a London one maybe) in the lower leagues were playing the franchise lot MK Dons and the original Wimbledon, reformed, were at a non league game away in Somerset and so the chant went up "you're supposed to be at Frome"

That's true

Ace.

I like the "where were you when you were us" song, too.

The off the cuff ones can be amusing, like Leeds to Bogdan; "You ginger bastard, get out of the sun"

El Hadj Diouf will spit on you is an all time classic or Robbie Robbie show us your arse to the original savage also features highly

Most powerful in football

Arguably YNWA

For me, the best club anthem is Birmingham's Keep Right On. City's blue moon was always powerful for Hatton's ring entrances too but doesn't seem too powerful when them buffoons sing it though

Agree with KRO - especially when 4k brummies belted it out at the top of there voices at the Reebok after there 94th minute equaliser kept them up

That was a very impressive sight, got to give it to the Zulu wankers.

I like the Brum one.

I like the Welshers belting out their anthem, too.

I know its the dirty mancs but i did always enjoy a full rendition of City Are A Massive Club with all the various verses.

Newcastle also do them for Sunderland and they always amuse

"Season ticket with a happy meal" and "cheesy chips for a quid" spring to mind

How does the city one go?

As jules say, only "powerful" one I can think of is YNWA

Don't like spurs go marching in one

Rest just seem to come and go, eg city doing the poznan, or are shit/not "powerful"

Watched a clip of stoke at Liverpool and Delilah was impressive

Don't forest sing some mull of kintyre bollocks?

Always feel a good anthemic song is best. Like said above Delilah, YNWA are powerful.

We are the one and only wanderers sung ad nauseum for minutes on end can become strangely hypnotic.

Curly Watts as a celebrity fan

Continental lazer blue kappa kit

Tallest floodlights in the land

You could see old Trafford from the Kippax stand.

Are my favourite 4 verses

Our one for Kevin Campbell was ace......

He spits he dives he....
