See that's the problem with the English National team - they just can't be arsed.

I preferred it when pro players kept their careers going as long as they could, because they loved to play - even if it meant going down the divisions.

Nowadays they think going down a division or 2 is beneath them.

I can't imagine Alli/Sterling/Rashford etc plying their trade at York City when their careers are coming to a close.

He would be managing players from the top of the premier league, something he hasn't done at club level. Look at the teams he managed since he left us, Chelsea, Arsenal etc never came calling yet Sunderland, Blackburn and Palace were the offers on the table

 

Yes he achieved great things for us, but it shouldn't hide the fact that he isn't a top, top manager

He's good at keeping teams in the Premier League, and to be honest, that's all that about 15 are interested in. He'll never win you a trophy, and probably would never finish in the top 4 either.......but part of the problem with football is that finishing 17th in the PL is deemed as success, and he'll generally be able to do that.

 

It's a shame that with his, let's be honest, fairly mediocre CV that he managed to get the gig that he really wanted, and then contrived (even though he was entrapped) into fucking it up. Please let's not kid ourselves though, even if he did get the England job again, we wouldn't be winning the World Cup, or even coming close to it, as we're simply not good enough, no matter who our manager is

The second paragraph sums it up. He got his dream job. I reckon the FA said to him, in light of panorama (who he hasn't sued) that he has to be cleaner than clean as England manager

Can't agree there mate. We'll never know just how good he is/was as he didn't manage a big club.

Let's be honest, utd and arsenal weren't going to call as they had long term managers. Once fergie had gone, they were always going for a big name.

Chelsea had the mourinho love in.

He got shafted at the geordies and has done well everywhere else. The one thing he did do was manage supposedly difficult players and that would have stood him in good stead.
