May 25, 20179 yr You're not wrong mate. Just heard about Bournemouth offering 120k a week for 3 years to the 35 year old Jermain Defoe. Absolute feckin madness That's absolutely fucking bonkers!
May 25, 20179 yr That's absolutely fucking bonkers! It is bonkers and so bonkers it's not actually true. He's signed a 3yr deal paying a still nice earner of £65k p/w
May 25, 20179 yr Yes but with a £5m signing on fee But he's a free agent, isn't he? SO £5m is a cheap deal for Bournemouth
May 25, 20179 yr Sure is Traf but the overall payment to him includes his wages and signing on fee that is where this 100+ grand a week is coming from
May 25, 20179 yr He scored 15 goals in a shit Sunderland team last season Fitness wise he really looks after himself I'd say it's money well spent
May 25, 20179 yr So it's costing c15m for a proven Prem goal scorer for a 3 yr term inc wages And folk think that's a crazy deal when the likes of Chris wood at Leeds being touted around at 15m transfer fee. Edited May 25, 20179 yr by Escobarp
May 25, 20179 yr Not too mention Ross McCormack That depends on whether he can get out of his house or can just be generally arsed training
May 25, 20179 yr According to the papers, he lost a close friend in the bombing and announced he was quitting hours later. '@MarcIles Very Sad to hear the passing of the wife of ex BWFC Head of Sport Science Mark Taylor in the Manchester bombing, tragic Marc'

May 26, 20179 yr I'd rather stay in championship than pay a wage like that. Sadly it's the way football has gone. If you want to get in the big league, and stay there, these are the sort of wages you'll need to be paying....whilst the TV income is in excess of £100M each year

If you want to get in the big league, and stay there, these are the sort of wages you'll need to be paying....whilst the TV income is in excess of £100M each yearThink Sunderland actually ended up with £99.9m for some reason. Still silly money but £65k is peanuts compared to the £300k the top players are getting. Rooney gets £210k per week.

If you want to get in the big league, and stay there, these are the sort of wages you'll need to be paying....whilst the TV income is in excess of £100M each year Think we should have learnt that if we ever get premiership football again it's wise to make sure when you get relegated you have not spent all the money, use it to build the club up sensibly build infrastructure and don't toss it off on long contracts at unsustainable levels of wages.
May 26, 20179 yr Fundamental basics of business so fuck knows why football clubs cannot operate in this manner.
May 26, 20179 yr Fundamental basics of business so fuck knows why football clubs cannot operate in this manner. Football is judged by short term success. You can win n trophies this year then noting next year and people forget. The days of clubs building up a squad over a few years are gone. Fans want instant success irrespective of the cost.
May 26, 20179 yr The days of clubs building up a squad over a few years are gone. Fans want instant success irrespective of the cost. True, very few managers get more than 2 or 3 years now.
May 26, 20179 yr We had one who got years and years and did a fantastic job while he stayed He still neglected the future in favour of the present and left a right mess
May 26, 20179 yr We had one who got years and years and did a fantastic job while he stayed He still neglected the future in favour of the present and left a right mess His mess was far less of a mess than the four that followed him. But crack on, blame our most successful modern day manager for the detritus that followed him, if that's your brew.
May 26, 20179 yr Opinion is one thing, fact is another Let's say allardyce left 20 first team squad members Tell me how many games they played in the prem after he left us That will be a fact Allardyce focussed on today not tomorrow That's ok I guess
May 27, 20179 yr Maybe the problem was above his head? Note the return to the no transfer fee high wage model after Coyle.

Jaaskelainen 214, Nolan 193, Davies 176, Anelka 155, Al Habsi 111, Diouf 108, Faye 107, O'Brien 85, Gardner 84, Vaz Te 54, Meite 39, Ben Haim 27, Campo 27, Stelios 15, Hunt 14, Speed 14, Michalik 7 and Andranik 4. [Also Scott Jamieson is now at IFK Gothenburg, who are in the Europa League QR1 in the coming season.] Edited May 27, 20179 yr by MalcolmW
May 27, 20179 yr Aye, though Vaz Te and O'Brien made a massive chunk of their appearances after we'd rightly written them off, we couldn't have used two goalkeepers and we were never going to hang on to Anelka. Allardyce signed Faye first chance he got, and you can stick a line through all the listed players from Meite onwards. So you're still right, even if the numbers bit you on the arse a bit!
