marple whites Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Was speaking to someone heavily involved in the building of the Reebok a few weeks ago. They didn't give much away apart from saying the leadership and decisions that had been made at the top were really poor, including the football league. So yes, we had great times - but they certainly won't be back in the short to medium term. Quote
mickbrown Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Big Sam was on Talk Sport this morning, he knows his stuff that man and great to listen too Did he tell everybody how great he was? Quote
bolty58 Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Did he tell everybody how great he was? Hopefully because, when he was with us, he was. Quote
mickbrown Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Hopefully because, when he was with us, he was. Yep. And don't we know it. Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Mourinho portrays arrogance and everyone loves him. Allardyce does it and he's a cunt. If sam hadn't pushed himself he'd have just been the manager that did well with little old Bolton. It was his self confidence and his double act with pg that brought our success. They put the club on the map again. Yeah it all went to shit, but I'd grin like fook listening to them on the radio, raising the club's profile. Quote
mickbrown Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Nakata was shite in the main I quite like the fact he retired young because he just couldn't be arsed anymore. That'd be me if I was an international footballer. None of this plying my trade in the lower divisions shite. Quote

I preferred it when pro players kept their careers going as long as they could, because they loved to play - even if it meant going down the divisions. Nowadays they think going down a division or 2 is beneath them. I can't imagine Alli/Sterling/Rashford etc plying their trade at York City when their careers are coming to a close. Aye, but it appeals to the loafer in me. Quote
gonzo Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Big Sam was on Talk Sport this morning, he knows his stuff that man and great to listen too I could listen to him all day. The FA should bite the bullet and get him back in. Quote
Zico Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 Mourinho portrays arrogance and everyone loves him. Allardyce does it and he's a cunt. Probably because he's won everything there is, more than once And because he does it in a foreign accent Quote

victor meldrew Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 For all the errors that may have been made, I agree mounts. Great times. Kids wearing Bolton tops in town instead of those of the big boys. not in 10 years time get the reflux capacitor out ...it's back to the 80's Quote
Tonge moor green jacket Posted September 7, 2017 Posted September 7, 2017 not in 10 years time get the reflux capacitor out ...it's back to the 80's Aye, possibly, but survive this season and maybe there's hope. Quote
bolty58 Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 Yep. And don't we know it. Good. If you were happy enough to enjoy the incredible ride you should at least be generous enough to acknowledge that he was great at what he did in those times. Anything else would be disingenuous. Quote

Sweep Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 If he came back tomorrow you could confidently put your life savings on us staying up. I'm not sure you could, he would still have the same poor quality squad Quote
DirtySanchez Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 If he came back tomorrow you could confidently put your life savings on us staying up.And that's what he's good at, keeping teams up. Palace, Sunderland came calling as they knew what he was good at Yea upsetting the premier elite and Europe away games were great and we rightly have fond memories, but the idea he should be England manager again, bollocks He would be managing players from the top of the premier league, something he hasn't done at club level. Look at the teams he managed since he left us, Chelsea, Arsenal etc never came calling yet Sunderland, Blackburn and Palace were the offers on the table Yes he achieved great things for us, but it shouldn't hide the fact that he isn't a top, top manager Quote
Sweep Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 He's good at keeping teams in the Premier League, and to be honest, that's all that about 15 are interested in. He'll never win you a trophy, and probably would never finish in the top 4 either.......but part of the problem with football is that finishing 17th in the PL is deemed as success, and he'll generally be able to do that. It's a shame that with his, let's be honest, fairly mediocre CV that he managed to get the gig that he really wanted, and then contrived (even though he was entrapped) into fucking it up. Please let's not kid ourselves though, even if he did get the England job again, we wouldn't be winning the World Cup, or even coming close to it, as we're simply not good enough, no matter who our manager is Quote
RONNIE PHILLIPS Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 I'm not sure you could, he would still have the same poor quality squad But they would be a damn sight more difficult to play against....that's not a criticism of Parky just a summation of Allardyces strengths. Quote

He got his dream job. I reckon the FA said to him, in light of panorama (who he hasn't sued) that he has to be cleaner than clean as England manager Entrapment or not he got himself into a situation he should have clearly avoided especially when you're a couple of weeks into the job Quote

We'll never know just how good he is/was as he didn't manage a big club. Let's be honest, utd and arsenal weren't going to call as they had long term managers. Once fergie had gone, they were always going for a big name. Chelsea had the mourinho love in. He got shafted at the geordies and has done well everywhere else. The one thing he did do was manage supposedly difficult players and that would have stood him in good stead. Quote
DirtySanchez Posted September 8, 2017 Posted September 8, 2017 That's like saying we don't know how good Madine is because he's never played for Real Madrid He's very good at keeping teams up who's only expectation is to stay up Quote
