gonzo Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Probably seemed worse to me as we were clocking 25 and above for league games at the time. Plus I was completely pissed every game. Quote
bolty58 Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 If there is ever one that eclipses Jay Jay we will be in fine fettle. I also loved Youri Djorkaeff who I have on a pedestal only slightly lower than Jay Jay. In days to come, young fans will be envious of those of us who had the sheer joy of watching them excel in the famous white shirt. Quote
gonzo Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 It's been done to death I know and a lot is down to big sams right here right now policy as well as total mismanagement from the top but with the talent and relative success we had for that period of time it's a travesty how we never made any proper money out of anyone. We barely got a dime for anyone. We should have been set up for life thanks to that period. How much would soomeone like n'gotty go for nowadays when you've got the likes of van dyke being touted for £50 million. Fookin bonkers. Quote
Naytch Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 My god what a player Jay Jay was. When you just sit back and think of the talent we saw turn out in the white shirt in that era, we were fucking ace! What memories Quote

I think our opportunity to cash in came later when we had younger players, but we suffered from bad luck and the mismanagement you mentioned. Cahill would have gone to the WC in 2010 had it not been for that freak blood clot, chances are the buyout clause would have been activated or we might have got near it. Man U buying Jones and Smalling and City buying Stefan bloody Savic seriously reduced the big fish in the market over the course of the next few transfer windows and we paid the price. The next mistake was not forcing Gaz to sign a contract extension. Holden would have been worth serious money, Lee less so, but not insignificant. Muamba we probably would have recouped his fee on relegation and if we did turn down 6 mill for Mark Davies in 2012 then we were crackers even without hindsight. Adlington Trotter Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Remember watching him at France 98 and thinking to myself how great it would be to see him play for a team in England. Never in a million years imagined it would be for us! His second against Villa is still up there as one if the best free kicks of all time. Quote

Traf Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 Never tire of watching this video JJ and R Kelly at their finest Beautiful stuff. That goal v West Ham still gives me goosebumps. How the fuck did him and Youri end up in the same team at Little Old Bolton? Amazing. Quote
Dr Faustus Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 slightly off topic, but does anyone remember Campo's debut when he was twatting balls at Simon Charlton like he was Roberto Carlos? had that cunt as last scorer too saw Oasis that night Quote
gonzo Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 My first proper memory of campo was at Sunderland on a night match. He looked like he was playing for the rocket in Bolton Sunday alliance. Quote
captainmed Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 (edited) Was in NSU in those days YD & JJ used to play long cross field passes to each other, and the crowd and the other players were in awe. Unfortunately JJ became ineffective, especially away from home in his last season. Edited June 24, 2017 by captainmed Quote
Sweep Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 I still have his signed shirt, framed, at the top of my stairs. Loved the bloke. Quote
RoadRunnerFan Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Unfortunately JJ became ineffective, especially away from home in his last season. That's what I thought at the time, until we couldn't keep hold of the ball half as well the following season. He was less effective going forwards In his final season but we really missed him when he had gone. Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Best of the lot for me, Youri was pure class but this chap had everything. I was reading a random article the other day, where it stated how we used to sing from the stands so good they named him twice can't say I remember that one, wasn't it the standard Jay Jay Okocha clap clap clap clap clap repeat. Quote
Leyther_Matt Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 They sold that as the slogan on stuff in the shop but definitely wasn't a chant. Was that the In Bed With Maradona article? Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted June 24, 2017 Posted June 24, 2017 Aye I remember it on the tshirts. It wasn't that article but cheers I've just read it now. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/inbedwithmaradona.com/journal/2017/5/23/jay-jay-okocha-the-dancing-maverick-who-made-football-smile%3Fformat%3Damp Quote
freds dad Posted June 25, 2017 Posted June 25, 2017 The best I've seen in my 40 odd years of watching us. The West Ham goal and taking the piss out of Beckham and Keane are the highlights of watching a truly talented footballer. Quote
Krimzon Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 Seem to remember the song for Jay Jay was directed at the away fans as " Youve only come to see Okocha" etc Hit the bar 3 times all from over 20 yards at Spurs, plus a 25 yrd shot that was parried for Nolan to score, earning a perfect 10 match rating from some FA bod . (Stelios also hit the bar from 25 yrds that game too) But this is my favourite goal , shame it wasnt for us but always nice to see the humiliation of Oliver Kahn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUPiMFHbbFU Quote
Krimzon Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 One day ill learn how to post the video rather than just the link .... Quote
