They are indeed. She's not actually done anything wrong, it's just not a good look for the wife of the Chancellor to be "non-dom" really is it

Or be part of a business that was still doing business with the Russians up until last week.  We're all in it together though.

She's not done anything illegal (as far as we know). Whether tax avoidance is "wrong" is entirely subjective.

Aye, that's what I meant, just didn't word it well.

It isn't illegal what she's done.....although now the press are digging, they'll soon highlight any wrongdoings in her finances I'm sure.

As for tax avoidance, you're right, is it subjective and depends which side of the wealth divide you sit on I suppose. It's not illegal, but could be viewed as morally wrong. It'll never stop though, I'd have thought anybody earning the sort of money she does, has many perfectly "legal" ways of ensuring they don't pay full whack

Why can't they just leave these people alone so they can get on with the job?

Nothing illegal. and nothing to prevent a voluntary payment of the tax which would have been payable without the special status of 'non-dom'. [Bit costly though.]

He's a wrong un.

Multi millionaire, his wife trousers £11m a year just sitting on her arse.

He could quite easily fuck off and live a quiet life of luxury.

Instead he chooses to go to work and make ordinary working people poorer.

Weird fucker.

It's only earnings out of the UK that she doesn't pay tax on.

Anything earned here, she does.

It's a funny one: a little while ago on here we were discussing those big companies that avoid paying a lot of tax here by being registered elsewhere- the coffee companies for example.

General consensus was that they should pay tax in the country in which it's earned.

Which precisely what she's doing.

There are also some rules specific to India too that were mentioned.

Leave them alone

I'm sure her tax/dom status will have no bearing on the decisions taken by the Chancellor.

I see the newly re-elected Hungarian PM is prepared to buy Russian oil in Rubles, the only EU member doing so. Mounts is still wondering if he is actually a sound chap 🤔mmm

If you are seeking reassurance, he briefly attended the same college as Michael Heseltine, William Fulbright and Maria Eagle.

apparently india doesnt allow dual nationality, which seemingly prevents her having a uk passport

fwiw, im sure shes not breaking any rules

but it does harm the tories when labour are making a case that sunak (and the others) are totally out of touch

why would sunak 'get it' when hes prob able to wipe his arse on tenners

I’m not denying there is a widespread problem on energy but this guy is very cosy with Putin.

Registering as a non-domicile has nothing to do with your nationality or what passports you hold.

That’s ok then! in Farrelli world buy from Russia in roubles bad man… buy in dollars from Russia good man.

indeed, and we're still buying form Russia as well, let's not forget that

I think the main issue, is that if people buy in Rubles, it props up their currency, if they refuse to, then with the sanctions then the currency collapses

I heard earlier on the radio that since the war has started, European nations have donated around $1B in aide to The Ukraine, at the same time as having spent $35B on oil/gas from Russia.
