A Government back shared ownership scheme building affordable homes answers a load of problems:

You invest in training to build a skilled work force, providing jobs for young people.

You build loads of houses so the money spent actually has some value.

Sell houses starting at 50/50 split buy/rent so you immediately recover most if not all your outlay. Income coming in from the rental side. The property itself is affordable so people on lower income have a chance.

Your are providing jobs, homes, employment and generating profit and income. Finding the land and dealing with the NIMBY attitudes are the barriers but there is massive potential that we could and probably should build ourselves out an economic hole rather than austerity which just did not work .

Not only is it factual, I'd say that loads of people who are on the property ladder wouldn't have got on, had they been trying now.

Agree with that. It's never been as difficult to get on the ladder as it is now (IMO)

This is and always has been a no brainer, both Labour and the Tory party surely could have no arguments about such a scheme and should together work hand in hand whoever is in power and for the greater good of everyone.

Oh, so a vote one way or the other wasnt just a vote for an individual and their political beliefs, as you suggested earler ?

I’m just pointing out the status quo from 40 odd years was also remain not just Cameron as PM at the time of the vote. Farage was the driver for leave and you were essentially voting for his ideology if you voted that way.

Too much like common sense for any party to latch onto that.

I especially love people who act like they’re Alan fucking Sugar or some kind of cunning entrepreneur simply because they remortgaged their house and bought a Q7 or a Range Rover.

Dont get me wrong, I’m grateful for the ‘luck’ I’ve had in being a homeowner and being in profit, but I wouldn’t dream of sneering at hard working young folk who are struggling.

Or saying it is what it is and then acting like I give a fuck when I dont.

Have a listen to this; I can imagine a few on here sounding a bit like this down the local.

Owning property isn't for everyone, help should be given to those want to buy but ultimately not everyone will not have the will or the wherewithal to do it.  I think we are one of the leading countries for home ownership as it is.

That also causes a problem, culturally we are addicted to home ownership and that isn't always a good thing.

I know a lad who was given his house to him by his dad. Fair play and all that, not his fault.

But he acts like he’s been given half of Lancashire by the Queen.

Anyway, always rattles on about the govt needing to build more houses. Until 1 year ago when a patch of land opposite his house was sold to developers and 40% of it was designated as “affordable housing”

He has spent the last 12 months pissing and whining to all and sundry about green belt being given up for houses.

Cant have it both ways you fucking flappy-jawed cuntsponge

What a cunt he is.

He doesn't even drink bitter - he drinks pink gin and tonic. Some bloke was filming him covertly once and random arsekisser approached him to kiss his bottom, they were unbeknownst a camera was filming the interaction and Toad of Toad Hall rebuffed the brainwashed acolyte's overtures of praise mutely and his minders bundled the cap-wringing twat away.

I know of a few folk, well into their 40s who still rent and have no intention of buying, they like having the freedom of being to move at a months notice and not being tied down to a mortgage.

There must be some folk like that for sure but I bet at least 95% would not be like that given the choice.

If renting costs more than the mortgage and your money drops on returement, what happens then

I love having no mortgage

That's one of the issues with a country obsessed with home ownership, rents are also sky high. Its not the case in other places, where there isn't the clamber to own on the basis that you'll also sell on for more.

44, still rent, my only out is that we're happy to move up north as the kids get olde and live in a smaller house and we don't have to do physical work. Retirement? Fuck knows. 4th of never and then some.

Each to their own but i would find having to move at a month's notice the opposite of freedom

Fair enough if they're traveling the world or something

The ideal would be to own your own place then rent it out if you want to move around

Rent capping in cities would be a start, we also should wean ourselves off home ownership and reliance on this as an income source/retirement plan.

And then have to get another mortgage or rent elsewhere?

I was thinking more the freedom to go off and travel the world or something not staying in the same place for long

The idea of having freedom to move to me doesn't mean living in several places in the same region because your rent keeps going up or whatever

There's no right or wrong answer here

Do what you have to do

What do you leave for your kids? The main selling point for me to get a mortgage was that security when I’m older plus being able to leave it or help my kids to get on the ladder when they want to .

One of my mates still owes over £600K on his mortgage, he's quite open in the fact that he's never going to be able to pay it off until his Mum pegs it.....
