We hold all the cards though.

After the past few weeks i believe even Mounts thinks that was/is bullshit. We were never in a powerful enough negotiating position to dictate terms.

Just get a van, fill it with people and pretend you've got 'goods' in the back. Foolproof.

They've got to get through Europe then to Ireland then to Northern Ireland and then across from Northern Ireland I think even the numbest immigrants might just try the English channel route first, so I'm thinking the Irish border won't be leaking a raft (forgive the pun) of illegal immigrants.

No I think we have control of all the cards because we don't have to play their game, I'm happy to stack and go WTO, what they going to do then? It's not difficult just call their bluff, that's if we have the courage to call them out.

Serious question....do you think they'll stop coming, or the numbers will drastically reduce if/when we leave the EU?

Any government that does not reduce immigration will pay at the ballot box it's as simple as that. To answer your question I'm sure numbers will be reduced it cannot be allowed to continue at the current levels.

That's a big gamble Mounts. What is your plan b in case they don't crumble first? You must at least accept it's a possibility. What do you imagine conditions would be like under those circumstances?

Do you honestly believe that the EU would be bothered if we went WTO? They are trying to make an example us so if they give in and give us concessions that is a signal for other eurosceptic members to follow suit. That aint going to happen

I would have thought that going to the WTO would be the EU's preferred option

How do they get into ROI if they're not EU citizens ?

Exactly

Don't forget though, pre referendum Turkey were having secret talks and would be joining the EU Within weeks

It must be true as vote leave put it on a huge billboard in the middle of Manchester

At least we had a lucky escape with that, no flies on us

I would have thought that going to the WTO would be the EU's preferred option

I thought that as well to be honest

I don't think the EU want us to go WTO anyhow as I've said from day 1 and still stand by it we will get a free trade deal and a deal that won't be off the shelf.

Currently those living in NI can view themselves as British or Irish (or both) according to personal choice.

They vote within the GB&NI Pariamentary elections, although those living in Nationalist majority ares are not represented because Sinn Fein will not swear the oath of allegiance.

They can get passports for either with 70 NI post offices dealing with applications for RoI.

The road system is numbered for all Ireland.

Car registrations are for all Ireland.

Eligibility for international sports teams allows anyone in NI to opt for RoI.

When Barry McGuigan was training locally he had to cycle across the border several times in each direction.

Road numbers and car registrations aren’t all Ireland, you’ll be travelling along a “N” route one minute and then the speed limit signs will change to mph from km then you’ll be in Northern Ireland on an “ A “ road, though you could have been in it for ages before that too, just these days the sign is the only indication of any change in a lot of areas. Car reg is different system in NI than in ROI

The border is a difficult one as it isn’t straight forward one country to another no matter what people think, the border split old parishes and districts, there’s places now where the local pub could technically be in a different country but it’s still the local for the village, or the supermarket is over the border but it’s where people go as it’s closer. Nobody, not even fervent unionists want the return of a physical border, does nobody any good.

I don't think the EU want us to go WTO anyhow as I've said from day 1 and still stand by it we will get a free trade deal and a deal that won't be off the shelf.

And if we don't, what then?

And if we don't, what then?

We go WTO I'm sure German car manufacturers for 1 will like that outcome. In any negotiation you have to have the bollocks to put everything on the line, shame we didn't give May the majority we needed to make life simpler however leaders must lead and hold their nerve. If not the EU fucks us over then it'll be sad day for UK and we will deserve what we get. No doubt some wankers will say told you so like clegg, Branson, and geldof and the like, as I said earlier you get what you deserve.

as I said earlier you get what you deserve.

You get what you vote for.....

Mate, not all illegals have to get through Europe, loads of ships go direct from Southern Europe, Africa and all over and dock in southern ports in Ireland, loads have been caught but the very fact some have shows some must have made it too.

There’s major issues with illegal immigrant smuggling rings in Ireland just like here, you just don’t here about it.

Not saying they all going to travel north and jump on ships in Larne, but, to say they’ll all go the Channel route is not correct, it’s just that the main focus of the news you see is focused on that as that’s where they are entering Britain

To be fair to Mounts, whilst many EU bureaucrats would like to see us 'punished' there are many who do not see such a move as beneficial to the EU.

How it all pans out is anyone's guess and we should never have got ourselves in this position in the first place. However, we are where we are and I for one don't want us to end up half in half out; we would basically be opening ourselves up for a perpetual dry bumming from the EU.

You believe what you believe

I believe the children are our future

I believe the children are our future

For sure, teach them well and let them lead the way

The point is that people just won't be shifted, so let's see how it unfolds.

We can't do owt about it.

You get what you vote for.....

If we don't leave EU them you don't get what you vote for and democracy is fucked same for Catalans that'll lead to civil unrest and all because some folk can't accept a democratic vote, it won't be pretty folks but that's what happens and you get what you deserve.

Catalans didn't have a recognised vote though did they?

The Germans are preparing for a hard brexit

As for your negotiation tactics of 'all or nothing' is sadly flawed.

To say "it'll be a sad day for the UK" is a massive understatement. How can you play russian roulette with UK businesses. This is not a game of poker down at your local, we are talking about 000s of jobs and the future of 100s if not 1000s of businesses. With good negotiations you have to have a BATNA so you can sail a different course should you need to. If the BATNA is WTO rules then we need to understand the implications.

If we don't leave EU them you don't get what you vote for and democracy is fucked same for Catalans

With the Catalans.....I'm not fussed either way, but only 42% of the electorate turned out, and that shouldn't be considered enough to swing independence. Votes like that, and Brexit, shoukd be mandatory (spoil the paper if you want, but do something)

youve said we will fail from day one I've said we won't fail and I'm sure I'll be proven right but to be honest sick of saying it, you wallow in your misery I'm not arsed as I've got faith in our country to survive anything that they can throw at us.
