plans are now afoot to create a border between NI and ROI that nobody wants to enforce

I thought our clear stance was no physical border?

how can that be

how does that close our borders?

and how does trade between the two work?

Wouldn't it be open border for goods (once we get deal agreed) but not for people, don't think that illegals would come that route anyhow. Cleggs opinion did not matter when he was a leader even less now.

Doesnt it make it all rather pointless then?

Indeed. But Scottish Labour won't make inroads if they're isolated from the main party. Corbyn fronting something might, be Scotland is a tougher battle for him than many other parts of the UK.

I agree, it’s interesting. Will he be able to keep an upswing from those who traditionally weren’t SNP (ie younger, more liberal voters in the central belt)

Watching how the SNP tackle this first slump in a few years without reverting into right leaning independence rhetoric and trying to battle a resurgent Conservative vote. It will also depend on if Davidson wa ta to make a step on the national stage as well.

Never listen to Clegg at dinner time.

Or breakfast time or, indeed, any time at all.

The border is 310 miles long. Iron out a few twists and turns and build a wall. Sorted.

I think it is amazing how in the run up to the referendum and even the general election there were stories nearly every day on the ticking time bomb of immigrants coming over from Europe.

Not sure what has happened to those stories it is as though they were just to make people scared.

Still happening but not in the media I wonder why.

No it does not.

Currently Murdoch is pouring scorn on the Government.

Not because of any incompetence, real or imagined, but because they will not wave through the full takeover of Sky.

We hold all the cards though.

Fortunately, people now realise this is bollocks

No it does not.

If goods can still be moved freely and people weren't crossing as an entrance point, whats the difference from now? Honest question mate

Goods will cross freely people won't cross the UK borders without checks, however I'd expect its possible an exclusion for north to south Ireland as special case could need to be agreed as long as common sense wins the day.

I see goods being a potential stumbling block, however people a little less so, as presumably foreigners will need to show relevant permission to work in the UK.

Admittedly it could be a way in for illegals, though that's an ongoing problem.

Won't these million Turks just invade our shores via ROI and NI then

Surely it's all or nothing

Currently those living in NI can view themselves as British or Irish (or both) according to personal choice.

They vote within the GB&NI Pariamentary elections, although those living in Nationalist majority ares are not represented because Sinn Fein will not swear the oath of allegiance.

They can get passports for either with 70 NI post offices dealing with applications for RoI.

The road system is numbered for all Ireland.

Car registrations are for all Ireland.

Eligibility for international sports teams allows anyone in NI to opt for RoI.

When Barry McGuigan was training locally he had to cycle across the border several times in each direction.

Don't forget Boris is the great-grandson of a Turkish immigrant who was a political refugee.

Boris's great-uncle Zeki was Turkish Ambassador to UK, and Zeki's son has been Turkish ambassador to, among other places, South Korea.

How do they get into ROI if they're not EU citizens ?

A plane

Ask the Syrians, aghans, Africans and the rest who don't seem to have a problem entering.

Ask the Syrians, aghans, Africans and the rest who don't seem to have a problem entering.

Serious question....do you think they'll stop coming, or the numbers will drastically reduce if/when we leave the EU?

That's for the government of the day to introduce more stringent measures with regard to who comes in.

Freedom to do so is part of what was voted for. Perhaps we could have already done so for none EU folk, but the shackles have been unlocked, if not removed by the vote.

Just get a van, fill it with people and pretend you've got 'goods' in the back. Foolproof.
