I was for 22 years as a ‘sole trader’. My choice. If I was still SE I’d be saving around the £680 mark. You have to have been paying it to save. I paid NI for 49 years. Nah - but then we just run the business by paying the directors PAYE. I mean I tax write off expenses - or rather our accountacy firm does. I wondering if I can get the cat insurance done as a 'guard cat' Quote

The public, as ever, will have very short memories. All we can hope is that we can back to Politics being a little bit boring, and those in charge just set about concentrating on fixing the economy, rather than the circus we've had for the last couple of years. It'll not happen though. Quote

MickyD Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 The big question this whole budget raises is this: Where does Little Whitt do his shopping? Harrods or Fortnum & Mason? In Morrisons Hienz Soup is 5 tins for a £5 note. Now, I’m no math genius but I reckon that’s about a pound per tin. Quote

AH but you see, that's where they do make the money, if they sell in bulk at a fiver, yes its cheaper but some people can't do all their shopping like that. Its akin to if you can afford to pay your car tax up front it's cheaper, but when you've got £15 for a week's shop - a fiver on soup is a big slice of the money. As with anything, the more money you have, you can afford to buy things at aon overall cheaper price. Supermarkets are best on those hikes on wine if you look at them - pushing you to spend 2-3 quid more. Used to be a card carrying member of the pricing isntitute - they love to find those ways to get you to part with more of your money Quote

Winchester White Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 Just checked my council tax bill for 24/25, £269 a month. We have lived here 11 years and it has increased by 45% in that time. Given inflation until the last couple of years has been very low, that seems quite a rise. But government spending to councils has been cut and cut so no wonder really. Quote
