Ani Posted March 7, 2024 Posted March 7, 2024 What I do not understand is because the Tories have announced they are taking up the  Labour idea of taxing non-doms - why does that mean that Labour need to find that money from somewhere else.  Surely it will still raise the same amount ? Quote

Half the stuff they talked about in budget won't happen till after election or least won't have any impact. Quote

So now in order to keep that promise Labour need to find a tax to increase to keep within their own promise of no 'uncosted' spending. The obvious one would be to reverse the latest NI cut. The elephant in the room is the 'productivity savings' assumptions and the rather simple thinking that appears to underpin them. Quote

So that money is there. I get that the NI cut leaves a hole so is it that which needs to be balanced ?   Quote

Sky reckons due to tax band stagnation I’m only £40 better off a year. I guess that’s better than nothing - a ticket to an away game or a reach around from @Big E. Quote

So to still do what they wanted to spending wise they face the choice of reversing the NI cut and the Tories labelling them as raising taxes on 'hardworking families' or they keep the spending commitment and the NI cut and they are labelled 'fiscally irresponsible.' I've always had hygienist down as being unnecessary add ons They don't do anything you can't do yourself with a brush, floss and mouth wash Quote
