Well we did introduce the immigration act in the 1960s because of the fear that commonwealth immigrants would lead to a housing crisis. I think BBs parents would have been competing with a lot of people but they had a lot more housing stock to provide for them.

I thought asylum seekers had 'no recourse to public funds' so can not apply for council housing , unless  they are on specific schemes for Ukraine and Afghanistan. 
 

Costs a fortune putting them up in hotels but if you come from France on a boat not sure you can apply for  a council house. If you are French and coming from France on an EU settlement visa you can but think you have to be already living here to get one of them. 
 

Once the application is processed and if accepted you can apply for housing... I think.
