I just dont think its a great look renting out your house, then having to push up taxes in a country that is in a housing crisis.

Whether is legal or not, I dont believe the chancellor, or any MP, should be allowed to profit because of their grace and favours. Its especially bad from a Labour government.

So, for argument’s sake, I put my house up for rent, the letting agent didn’t do what they said they’d do, my wife would be breaking the law?

But with all respect, your wife isn't in one of the highest offices in the land managing one of the G7 economies

Why?

Under section 95 of the Housing Act 2004, it can be a criminal offence not to have the right licence as a landlord, unless the landlord can show that they had a "reasonable excuse".

I am sure unless you are wearing very large political blinkers people would agree that the agent telling them that the licence was being organised and having written proof would be a reasonable excuse ? Certainly better than she seemed to have yesterday.

Labour are doing a terrible job but this is such  a non story it is amusing. Not see any comments on Reform not registering for VAT.

So then, I deal with the letting agent who fucks up and my wife is breaking the law ESPECIALLY if she is in one of the highest offices in the land?

Makes even less sense than my original point.

I mentioned earlier donating the rental income to Shelter would have been the decent thing to do.

If her hubby was dealing letting agent and signed all the paperwork not sure what she could have done. I have no idea who signed what unlike others on here who seem to have the details very clear.

It's not a good look at all but let's be honest it's not anywhere near as bad as the right wing is making out. Especially given the free ride they gave to Nadhim Zahawi and Boris Johnson for much worse.

But if you dish it out in opposition then expect it back even if it's not really comparable, you should be whiter than white.

Well quite.

Getting money because you dont need to live there anymore for the time you are in office? Dont agree with that, and never have.

But it happens all the time.

Yes its not as bad, but that doesnt mean its good. Its why most people lose faith in any politicans.

No ome is expecting MPs to be angels, as the rest of society, but a 3k rent on your home that you dont live in because we pay for your home whilst you are in office? Thats bollocks whatever your politics.

There will be a daily briefing on Badenoch's desk regarding their activities, after their holier than thow stance in opposition, this Labour mob might as well have targets sellotaped on their backs.

Bollocks. Has she not been sacked? I was after double visionary points! 😡

Not really hollier than thou, they do one th whole better - but as I say, there is a disjoint between MPs and the public currently and making money off your job because tax payers - us - pay for many things isnt a good look.

Espcially when taces have to be raised - and they do, I dont disagree with that because public services need to be raised after years of cut backs and the mess of Brexit fucking up our productivity

Reeves and Joicey are central to financial policy for this government but just like the previous Deputy PM, can't seem to get away from lining their own pockets.

They all need to grow up and realise they are now responsible for the well being of the country and move away from their own petty manoeuvring.

Not sure about that, the Tories were absolutely corrupt and frankly couldn't give a fuck how blatant it was.

But it is a bit daft to not expect flack when most of the papers in this country are on the right, you have to be squeaky.

Small poll obviously but they've still got the vote in here which is surprising.

Really? No surprise to me.

We all knew the Tories were privileged and corrupt twats but this government got in on an anti corruption, we're one of the people ticket... it now turns out there is no difference between them and the outgoing party, the nouveau rich are the worst kind in my book

I see Reform have suggested bringing back those blue 3 wheelers from the 60's and 70's for disabled people.

Visionary! 😂

You just couldn't bring yourself to say 'spaz chariot' could you?

I won't then.

Again, absolutely irrelevant to this issue.

Besides, politician in grace and favour accommodation in renting out own house shocker.

It’s always happened

Anyroad, are you privy to their financial status?

Mortgage free?

Mortgaged up to the bollox?

Does the rent cover the mortgage?

You’re making a fuck load of assumptions here.
