Lokks like some kind of deal has been agreed

<reaches for popcorn>

9 billion year for a set of regulations that says you have to have bendy bananas and such like so that you can have a free trade deal sounds an awful lot of money to spend on something that should be so simple in fact it beggars belief that we’ve put up with it for so long.

I gather from your posts you think we should leave ????

However if we forget the daft regulations that you claim exist you at least acknowledge there is some value in the free trade deal. Do you have any idea what that value is ?

It shouldn’t cost anything for a free trade deal but no doubt it will and I’m not in a position quantify it however it will be much less than we currently pay and should cost the country less than any tariff that might be implemented should no there be no deal and in this part of the negotiations we should use the trade imbalance to our advantage. We’re now moving on to trade talks no suprise that it’s going as I predicted. A deal will be done.????????

A deal will be done of that I am certain. It will involve plenty of £££ going to the EU, of that I am also certain.

Not sure what we are going to gain from all this but time will tell I suppose.

SO it looks like something is starting to happen, at long last.....it'll be intersting to see the detail. Whatever it is, I've heard Farage on the radio this morning saying that it's a terrible deal, he's intimating that we will agree to still be governed by the ECJ for at least another 8 years....which sounds a bit odd (I might have misheard, but he was certainly getting in a flap about something)

I'm pleased we're making progress - but how are we supposed to be 'in control of our own borders' if there isn't one between ROI and NORN?

Every Norn Ironer can get an EU passport. Biggest losers = us.

Well we aren't.....and I suspect that the whole Irish border issue still has miles to run yet. At least it's been pushed aside to let us get on with the trade talks, I'm sure we'll come back to it at some point in the future.

Does this mean people trafficking and illegal immigration will now be concentrated through Ireland into the UK?

No, if they're illegal, then I'm sure they'll still be coming in the same way that they always have

 as I predicted.

All I've read so far looks reasonable and sensible.

Good article from Jeremy Warner in today's Telegraph.

Important not to pay too much heed to the headlines in this matter.

Yes but they will attempt this way into the UK if there is an easier route.

True, we need to wait until the detail is properly released

At present, it looks like we're going to be stay in the customs union for a longer period of time which is great news....................I wonder if we'll concede on freedom of movement as well. I'll piss myself laughing if we do

Have you not heard the rhetoric from Brexiters? Have you missed the front pages? You don't even have to be foreign to be their enemy...

As for the "closeness leads to federalistion" thing.... utter nonsense. How long has the "United Kingdom" existed? And yet it has always existed on the verge of collapse. Closeness leads to peace. That's it.

Not once has anyone made out that Europe is an enemy. Yes rhetoric rattled around to make it seem that it's a shitty place to be and photos of lines of refugees is hardly appropriate. Yet not once have I seen a headline or heard anyone declaring European folk as an enemy.

You choose to paint it that way as usual.

The UK most certainly hasn't existed 'permanently close to collapse'.

As necessary, developments have evolved resulting in devolution and votes for independence.

That's democracy in action as is Brexit and is reflective of true closeness.

Not being part of the EU doesn't mean we can't still have close relationships with the EU, Norway and Switzerland both manage it without being enemies.

The only person stating otherwise is you. You seem to want to create enemies amd I'm sure glad you're not negotiating.

So if Mounts just says “I don’t want to be part of the EU, it’s my belief system”, you’re saying you’ll accept it? Aye, course.

Some of his claims are bollocks but plenty make sense.

Personally - and I mean this - I couldn’t give a fuck if we’re in or out. Seriously, I’ll just crack on.

But as I see it you present your arguments with a strong sense of claiming some sort of liberal, tolerant high ground. It weakens every sentence you write.

Sharpen up. Be as good as you think you are.

Sonny

Sorry Spider, didn't realise I had to consider your opinion before I posted anything. I have claimed nothing of the sort, yet because "that's how you see it", it must be true.

How about you pick apart the arguments rather than the person making them?

Just as well he's not in a position of authority.

He should stick to blaming Britain's poor performance on disabled people.

He's good with boiled sweets don't forget.

He's indicative of the current government in so much as he's a fucking dickhead.

Is anyone clear on the ROI/NI arrangements? It's all smoke and mirrors from what i can gather

I think so.................

It's not finalised, but we've done enough to get to trade talks
