They are indeed. The EU set the timetable of what we had to agree before we could move to trade talks - we gave in. We initially refused to pay anything for the divorce bill yet we end up paying €50b. We try and set up preliminary talks with potential trade partners but we get slapped down until we leave the EU. Some senior politicians suggested at the outset we could cherry pick our freedoms and reject the rest so now we acknowledge that the EU have said "No" to that and we will leave the single market and customs union.

This is all before we start the trade talks...i think you can see now who are the better negotiators

I don’t think we ever refused to pay a divorce bill, I’m sure we’ve already had preliminary trade talks with many countries but we cannot sign a deal until we are out of the EU we knew that from day 1.

Without the UKs flexibility in negotiators we would not have got this far and that flexibility might not always be available to the UK government as can be seen in negotiations regarding the Irish border.

With regards to cherry picking its the UK who have made it clear we are leaving lock Stock and barrel and as I’ve said from early on the key to our success is dependent mainly on a free trade deal and financial passporting once we’ve agreed on those key requirements we really are on the way to a good deal.

You also conveniently fail to mention that we’ve told the EU that their citizens residing here will be subject to our laws and not the ECJ is that because it goes against your opinion that we are being bullied and dominated by the EU? Let’s make a judgement when all is settled done and dusted.

David Davis was a scream today when asked about the Impact Assessments of Brexit in the Uk, " er, we don't have any, they don't exist " :D

Whats the point in doing an impact assessment when no one knows how it’s going to end or what the economic situation will be across the world when it’s all finalised.

isn't the issue that he said they had done impact assessments....when in fact that they hadn't? - I've only heard bits and pieces on the radio today, so I'm not quite sure what's gone on, but they did have some political expert on LBC when I was driving home suggesting he's really fucked up this time, and could be in the shit for misleading "the house"

It's called scenario planning so you are prepared for every eventuality. Failing to plan is a planning for failure, this is the basics of good business

I’d expect them to model up a number of scenarios in each sector in order to help them asses what they are negotiating

What else are they going to be doing?

If you don’t know what impact tarrifs will have on different sectors than how can you even begin to negotiate? What’s the point of us moving to the next stage in negotiations (future trade agreement) if we aren’t ready

In reality they have been done and they most probably look like a bag of shit, thus the back tracking

If you don’t know what impact tarrifs will have on different sectors than how can you even begin to negotiate?

This is the main issue, and it's a real worry that the bloke tasked with leading negotiations is appearing more and more clueless by the day.

I'm willing to bet money that the Government has run a multitude of scenarios - none of which make particularly palatable reading - and DD has chosen his words very carefully today so as not to be accused of lying at a later date.

We won’t fail though.????

You are back to the moving target tactics again Mounts. Define success please?

Was getting a bit bored with all this Brexit, it's getting better and funnier everyday now, you couldn't make this stuff up. :D

Blue Passports, and not letting foreigners enter the country unchallenged

free trade deal, financial passporing deal agreed, (even if there is a reasonable cost involved) obviously no ECJ involvement in UK matters, regained sovereignty, control of borders and control of who we allow in.

Define success please?

Moving to the heart of the EU to live out your twilight years - safe in the knowledge that your good judgement and political acumen have helped leave Britain on the front foot and ready to face the next one hundred years with renewed confidence. And doing it with a blue passport ;-)

Thanks for reminding me the blue passport is one of the key objectives. ????

The British government voted 498 to 114 to trigger Article 50 this gave TM's Conservative government the authority to negotiate with the EU to get the best Brexit deal, that's exactly what she is trying to achieve

Labour fought the last election as a Brexit supporting party, if they wanted to stay in the single market and the customs union, as they do now, they could have voted against Article 50 and stopped Brexit in its tracks

All the 'hot air', 'controversy', 'shite', swirling around the Brexit negotiations is exactly that

Every critical group, be it Labour politicians, EU negotiators, SNP, Lib Dems, BBC ( impartial) or any other group want this to end in a car crash, for totally different reasons

If you were Theresa May would you have the balls to walk this line, if she thought she couldn't get a good deal why would she carry on for the next 2 years getting shit from all sides, if this Conservitive Government falls before the job is over we have NO (credible) alternative and for every body in Great Britain, Brexiteers or Remoaners, it will be a massive expensive disaster that will impact the whole country

Brexit WILL happen, and as I see it the Government are fighting on our behalf to get the best outcome they can, Junker and Barnier are there to stop them, I know which side I support

Excellent post. ????????????

Seconded. Absolutely superb.

But please stop talking sense it doesn’t belong on here

I thought your view was it was going to be better ?

Are you now saying we do not know either way ?

And doing an economic impact is pointless.

I remain unconvinced.

Excelllent post. Can you also clarify not which side you support but also which side has the strongest hand in the negotiations

the brexiters wont be happy when they realise england isnt going to be white any time soon

You really need to let this shit go. This stuck record does you no credit and is akin to schoolyard insults.

As stupid as labelling all Remoaners as Merkel sycophants.

There were many other reasons for voting out than your regularly trotted out staple diet as well you know.

Aye I'll go with that.

My missus was staunch leave but for the first time she is suggesting people weren't presented with the full facts and I think she was trying to tell me she would of voted different if she knew then what she knows now etc

It delivered chaos with the Euro and chaos with Schengen. And I am a Remainer..

The EU is far from perfect we all agree with that. However, my point was about money delivered for projects in the valleys and it did this with bells on.

So it is good with the micro stuff but the big projects are a disaster. Great.

Is Schengen a disaster? I’m not sure that’s at all true is it

Many would argue that the Euro isn’t a ‘disaster’ either, it’s certainly been a lot stronger than the pound over the past 18 months so the markets would disagree with you for a start
