Moderators Casino Posted August 1, 2018 Moderators Share Posted August 1, 2018 We didnt have the cash to build the ground. That was the first 35 million of the debt Selling burnden was supposed to pull most of that but laws on planning were changed
tomski
Wasn't the consensus at the time that we had to do it or we would be fucked. Further down the line as burnden was deemed to be up to scratch and we couldn't kick on without the new ground
Eavesy
35 million these days barely gets you a stand never mind a ground. Lucky to invest when we did as we’d have no chance now. How many million is it costing Everton? Hundreds.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 1, 2018 Site Supporter Share Posted August 1, 2018 Weird as this is, occasionally I have a dream where we still have burnden and still play some games there. Dream varies but it's definitely burnden.
Mounts Kipper
I’ve posted it before but how the fuck in the space of 6-7 years did we go from aldershot and selling half the embankment to survive to having the funds to build the reebok? When actually think how little time that is it’s fuckin bonkers. Because we’re BWFC we do what we want. More of interest how did we go from a 50,000 crowd in 76 to less than 2000 in less than 10 years, only BWFC that could happen too. How many million is it costing Everton? Hundreds. CoMS/Etihad cost £112m and the £44m to make it football ready. The Emirates cost £390m 10 years or so later ok its in that there London so bumped cost up. Still over 10 times the price for just over twice the capacity. Dream varies but it's definitely burnden. Genuinely believe if we built a new ground on the old site we would add thousands onto our average attendance. Maybe it’s just the nostalgia distorting reality ( or too many drugs) but like you TMGJ I often dream about burnden and playing there again. May be different if he moves the Jags over from Jacksonville.

Wouldn’t happen now.

Moderators Casino Posted August 1, 2018 Moderators Share Posted August 1, 2018 (edited) Theres nowt to suggest crowds would be any higher in the town centre I'd prefer it there, but crowds wouldn't suddenly be much bigger Look at last season Bottom of the league and averaging 15?k Don't think we ever did that at burnden Too many rose tinters about that place Edited August 1, 2018 by Casino

Maybe, but The attendances in 78-80 weren't as high as much of our most recent tenure

MancWanderer
Went past that site last Saturday after going to Bolton to see my Mum and calling at Carrs on Manny Road on my way home Looking at it now that area is a lot bigger than I remember the greyhound stadium covering

Possibly less away fans as some would be deterred as we’d have more hooligans prowling around Burnden than bother going to the Reebok. gonzo
Crowds be no higher at burnden if still there Just look at our championship winning year Aye think we got 13k v port vale, the game before we beat QPR to get promotion. With the move to reebok, we gained a load from horwich Chorley, leyland etc in the glory days. Pretty much back at our nautral level now. There’s that one season that sticks out when nobody could be arsed, in our second season down 99ish. Gates of 10k v brum and qpr etc. Think the novelty had worn off for the bolton folk making the trip out of town and we hadn’t gained the West Lancs brigade because we were shit again
