Raheem Sterling

Are these blokes serious?

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45196259

Always liked Ian Wright but think he's gone off at the deep end a bit here. I was critical of Sterling, as I suspect many others were, because he kept getting picked during the World Cup and yet couldn't keep possession or finish to save his life - certainly nowhere the player he seems to be for City. Fuck all to do with the colour of his skin - I was hoping he'd be replaced by Marcus Rashford FFS!

Didn't know about the Primark thing etc.but surely even the simplest of folk could see the potential problem with a football 'superstar' having a rifle tattooed on his leg. I wouldn't have read anything sinister into it but others might - especially impressionable youngsters in places like, for example, Moss Side.

Seriously playing the 'racism' card? It seems that any criticism whatsoever of anyone other than a white person is latched on to as 'racism'. Brings the delay in acting on the Rotherham, Telford, Rochdale etc. atrocities into sharp focus. Overly sensitive white marigolds to the fore.

Was Wayne Rooney black as well then? Or David Beckham or Gazza? Or any other England player who's come in for an inordinate amount of stick?   Outbursts like this do a genuine cause no favours at al

I thought he was one of our best players in the Workd Cup   Caused defenders all sorts of problems, they couldn’t live with him   Harry Kane on the other hand bags a hat full against a couple of

I also thought he had a decent World Cup and is a player that will get better in time

His pace reminds me of you in your pomp mate, clearly you finish 95% of the time, and he doesn't though, that's the big difference

Aye can't compare me and him????????

There's a definite undercurrent at play in my opinion. Same with Hamilton.

And I've seen the Hamilton undercurrent in full flow in the Bromilow before a game

Sterling gets a hard time. Thought he played well at the world cup although he was frustrating at times. I can't stand Hamilton though, seems an obnoxious arrogant twat. Does that qualify me as racist?

Don't have a problem with either, but Hamilton is one of the very best at what he does. Sterling isn't. He's decent but not amongst the elite.

If Sterling had a football brain then he would be one on the elite players in the world, but that bit is missing

I concur completely.

One of the best players, for possible the best prem champions ever = Elite player.

I thought Kane didn't pull up any trees either but that comment can't be classed as racist because he's white

It’s nowt to do with sterling’s race it’s his all round demeanour - comes across like a pampered mard arse with a fanny boys run and forced his move to city for the till ....... it’s just easy to dislike him like it is Ramos Panto villain who happens to be black.

thing about the Kick It Out campaign is that unless they point out there is racism in football, they are redundant

they call it "shameful silence", but it's probably that most people didn't think it was racist or merited discussion

Sterling has said he's not bothered by the tabloid coverage he gets

so why do they suggest it's a racist campaign that will drive him out the country? because if they don't, they don't have a "job"

And trophies....

But why was he not hated when he was playing for Liverpool ??/ after all...he pushed for a move to them from QPR ???

Spot on.

As a 50 million player, he's awful

Better than Martial

He must have got blacker? For the record I think he’s fine no problems with him at all but I think he’s a grossly overrated footballer

I think there is a witch hunt out for him. Racist or not I don't know?

He gets a lot of stick off the journos though which in my opinion is out of order.

He got hammered one week for a lavish holiday then the next for being a 120k footballer shopping in primark.

Agree with all of that

Only time I’ve had an issue with him was him and his agent’s behaviour at the end of his Liverpool spell. He was very badly advised and came across like a cock

Found myself defending him over and again during the WC to those once every 4 years football fans who saw him miss a chance and were too thick to appreciate all he did for us.

Not a fan of Hamilton as I’m not a fan of F1 because it’s dogshit. If I say it’s white dogshit I assume that makes it a nob-racist feeling

There are two people who have suggested the hatred is racist (at least publicly) - Ian Wright and the head of "Kick It Out"... and both of them are black.

I've always maintained that racism will just go away if you stop talking about it. If people keep bringing it up, then it will continue to be a thing.

There are certainly other areas that need far more attention than Sterling's press coverage.

No.

I like both of them. Decent human beings from what I have seen.

Hamilton is a driving genius who delivers. Sterling IMO is a potential footballing genius who delivers for his club but not for his country on what I have seen so far.

If he does start to produce club form for country, I would be absolutely delighted for him.

Wow. That's spectacular, even by your standards.

I think he's discriminated against because he reminds people of the Google Dinosaur.

Hence the frustration factor against him is doubled.

Keep banging on about it, when there doesn't seem to be a case to answer, doesn't help. A danger it creates indifference and even resentment.

Focus on real issues.
