Holidays

Cancelled ours with Jet2 this morning, very easily done on the website. Going by their announcement this morning of planning to restart flights on July 1st, I think by August they will be leaving it up to people to make their own decision and the lack of cancellation protection that goes with it. No interest at all in a socially distanced holiday, and no idea whether I’d be back in work to be able to self isolate for a fortnight afterwards.

  • For the record, I've never had any business dealings with captainmed. I hardly know the bloke and he certainly doesn't know me or my business. It's not the best review I've had, but you can't win

Should someone on furlough be jetting off for a fortnight ?

Morally, it seems rather poor.

As Micky says, it would/should come from your holiday entitlement surely.

Other than that, go and enjoy.

Interesting question.

It might be possible to go and work abroad rather than from home, and would anyone know?

Your Zoom background of a beach full of Perspex dividers might give the game away

You can have virtual backgrounds

I gues you could tell your employer to strike it from your holiday entitlement for the year.

Your employer doesn't need you if you're furloghed

Dunno why that means you shouldn't do whatever the fuck you want

And if they want to decide when blokes can take their holidays, pay the holiday pay at 100%

Correct, but you can be taken off furlough at any time.

I'd be mightily pissed off if I asked one of mine to come back only to be told they couldn't because they were off to/in Spain for a fortnight

Not a problem if you give your employer advance notice

Indeed

So make it clear if they want to go away, they need to book the time off

A...pay them 100 % out of your money

B...take the govt money and they retain their holidays

If you refuse the holidays, I'd suggest  you'll need to show youre being reasonsble

I share your frustration btw

Is anyone on here honestly thinking of going to Spain this summer?

If so, are they honestly expecting it to be anything other than stressful as fuck?

I've booked Greece for next June

I had nowt else to do

Other than book barmouth for August

I'm waiting to see what happens but I'm considering going over to Albir/Benidorm in September for a few days.

I'll be visiting my mate who lives over there though so I won't be in a hotel and won't be doing the typical tourist stuff (apart from going to the pub)

Think mounts has booked for Spain hasn’t he

Even going to the pub is likely to be a distancing shitshow.

I'm just thinking that a holiday is supposed to be a relaxing affair, but the measures being introduced look like making it all anything but.

I'll let you brave souls do the scouting missions for now.

I still want to know how the airlines expect to fly full aircraft with social distancing rules.

They dont

But they can get cash moving again by only putting 50/60% capacity on them and charging more.

Wouldnt be getting on a Pakistan jet anytime soon. Some wag on twitter suggesting that planes being rushed back into service aren’t maintained right.

@nordcurve will set that straight hopefully.

But how does that work with the likes of Tui and Jet2 with full or nearly full charter flights booked ages ago?

I'm looking at Spain in November, and Portugal in October. But I'm not booking anything at the moment.

I really don't fancy going some place where everybody is walking round in masks, and social distancing is still a priority.

What's my chances?

Slim; 20/80

I’ve got Thailand in December.  Emirates are allowing us to move flights if we choose to another date in the future on same route which is great. I’ve only paid for 2 nights hotel at minute to reserve my rooms so not end of world if needs moving

Essential travel only.

Dont think that includes drowning in San Miguel at an Irish bar on the Costa Del Bulldog.

mind, this govt. changes it’s mind every few days so who knows?

Does essential travel include four popping over to the chateau in france?

Yes.

Thats posh, and posh people are exempt.

Shearings have gone pop.

Not massive, But employ locals and a sign of the times.
