May 18, 20206 yr My sister who lives in Mallorca and works for Jet2 has just told me Spain will allow EU members in as tourists from mid June. UK tourists probably not until August. This is obviously unconfirmed but she’s been right about everything up to now. Assume this applies across Spain and not just the Balearics

When I saw it it was something around opening at 25% capacity then 50% August and for rest of year but no UK til 2021. Wouldn’t be allowed on island. A lot of the bar/club staff are UK citizens so they might struggle in that sense
May 18, 20206 yr Re Jet2, their hierarchy currently believe they will be flying again in Sept, possibly Aug. That's from the horse's mouth this afternoon

You can't holiday here until early July, but you might be able to go to a country with a lower infection rate before then. 😉

Remember though that if they start flying, it saves them a lot of money. They are not obliged to ground flights and they then don’t have to pay people back. Ryanair probably the same. bizarrely, it may make more sense to fly half empty planes.

May 19, 20206 yr What do you think, due to fly out for a week in Spain with Jet2 Holidays 24th july. It is past their 70 day cancellation to just lose deposit so it will cost 30% of the holiday about £900. I am thinking pay the balance due next week and hope it goes ok? Ideally they will cancel and get our money back but I am just bothered it goes ahead and is really crap with restrictions in place.

This is where I think the likes of Jet2 are hoping to catch people out. Tell you the holiday will happen. Which it will. They can fly you there, the hotel will be open and they have given you what you paid for The fact that queueing for a spot on the beach, queueing for a drink, queueing for a place to sit, queueing to get out of the country, queueing to get in the country , queueing queueing queueing is not their problem. It’s yours. The busier resorts will be hellish.
May 19, 20206 yr Check how full the plane is....Maybe they'd prefer you didn't go and come to an agreement
May 19, 20206 yr It’s worth noting that the EU are planning to give their members first dibs on travel, so July may not be an option anyway. Brussels sulking may save your day.

Quite rightly as well, you'd be pissed off if you were an EU member and somebody else got first dibs, same as if you're a member of any club. The likes of Spain and Greece must be itching for the Brits to be travelling back there for holidays, although as mentioned above, some people might get their holidays, but the early ones might be horrendous with regards to social distancing etc
May 19, 20206 yr Considered that but it's a gamble either way, isn't it Lose 900 Pay another 2k to get a shit holiday Pay 2k and get 3k if they cancel
May 19, 20206 yr you'd need to be mad desperate or both to go away this year it will be horrendous from start to finish Edited May 19, 20206 yr by L/H White
