  • For the record, I've never had any business dealings with captainmed. I hardly know the bloke and he certainly doesn't know me or my business. It's not the best review I've had, but you can't win

Bugger! We've got a project over in Sweden (on hold at the moment) and were hoping to use the France route to drive there and back

Ireland has done it to us!

They can still come here, but if you want to avoid 14 days quarantine, don't fly to Dublin, but go to Belfast and drive across the border. No quarantine that way.

Is it looking like holidays to Zante in mid-July might be forced to go ahead even though you'll be stuck in the hotel?

We've been in lockdown for 54 days now (yes, I know it seems longer), I'm due to go away on August 13th (assuming, of course I'm not going to Kiev in a fortnight) which is still 90 days from now.

I think it's still too soon to write August off.

Not writing it off

Just saying it’s not looking too clever

One thing is being able to go, another thing to consider will be is it worth it

Greece is almost ready to receive tourists.
That suggests you'll be fine in 9 weeks time, providing things go to plan there, but who knows?

And then quarantine on the way back in?

Thankfully not me going, added twist is it's a group of 16 lads who I suppose can't even be together as a group without getting fined at the mo. There's time yet though...

Ryanair sent us out a change of flight notification this morning - only by a few minutes, but it just seems so incongruous to everything else going on.

Holding out hope for the first week of August.....like the proper idiot I am

Like traf says 9 weeks who knows

I can’t see this quarantine malarkey lasting long it just won’t be viable

I think your right about the quarantine bit. Its things being open normally that’s my worry... Pools, bars, restaurants etc

A couple of months could see a lot of change, however as things stand I still don’t know when I can have my Mum round here for a Sunday Lunch! Let alone go away and have a decent holiday in August

Correct and that’s my concern as I don’t want to spend thousands on a restricted holiday

luckily I haven’t committed so can sit & wait if things look good I will sort something

Beaches shut and swimming pools closed.

Not much of a holiday especially with kids.

Queueing for a bar that’s at 40% restrictive capacity and arguments happening everywhere as people kick off over distancing.

I reckon the holiday companies will get people to their destinations, but those destinations will be like a holiday organised by the Unions.

The elephant in the room for many is the "quarantine"

I put it in quotes, because it's not a law. There's no legal requirement for you to quarantine, it isn't and can't be policed.

It, like pretty much of the "rules" around COVID are mere suggestions/guidelines.

If a tourist destination is open for business, you have to assume the R number in that country is quite low and they've done well to get re-opened. Why, therefore, would/should you have to quarantine coming home from a low risk country?

I'm booked for Dubai & Ras al Khaimah in August. Emirates say they'll fly me there and the hotel is open. It's got a massive beach where they're employing social distancing, a load of a la carte restaurants where masked waiters will serve food and the bars are open. Quarantine or no quarantine, if the holiday isn't cancelled on me, I'm going.

Social distancing suits me on holiday, I don't want to talk to strangers

Very interesting thoughts there

Currently, if "quarantined", I'd just come home and work from home.

I suppose it could become law and (conceivably) enforceable.

I'm still hopeful of something, somewhere

Looking like I'll be going to the Breighmetian islands.

Very little travel time, no pissing about with currency and everyone speaks the lingo.

COVID will be gone before they can get it on the statute books. Unless Boris declares a National State of Emergency, they can't just bring laws in.

A local copper was telling me if they see groups of people together, they can only ask them to separate and move on : they have no actual power to disperse them for hanging around.

unless they're (a) football fans or (b) black 😉

What’s the state of play regarding insurance @Traf will it only get complicated if you have other health issues

Don't eat the food or mix with the locals though

My 5 day Haven Holiday in late July is still on for now, they've taken my dosh.

But if swimming pools, bar area etc are closed... what is the fucking point. I ain't hanging around in a so-called deluxe static caravan for 5 days!

.... unless Battlenips is still on 😁

Bet you’re a Cala gran man

drinking carling on deckchairs outside your caravan 😀

Considering skiathos, going in about 340 days

I'd tell you to go to Skopolos instead but you dont do ferries so I'm wasting my time, you continue to do commercial Greece

not sure how true but covid isn't being included in any form of travel insurance and pandemics won't be covered going forward also...like I said, not sure if 100% true but I've read it

Anyone fancy Italy next month?

Avoid the elderly. If there’s any left there.
