I make a lot of risottos. Fish, mushroom, chicken, chorizo or a combination of some or all of them them. Bacon and Butternut squash is a particular favourite. Risotto rice (Arboreto??) I’ve only ever seen as white rice. Available as brown?

Apparently there is a brown version but I've never seen it. Mind you, we went to Asda, Aldi and Home Bargains last night in search of arborio rice and none of them had any in stock.

I'm sure I've seen it in Lidl Howfen

I take protein first thing in a morning with my porridge as can’t be arsed eating 4 eggs.

Same pre/post workout as your body needs proteins pretty sharpish but your not gonna start steaming chicken after gym.

I could never replace a meal with em though. Preparation is key. Can get 5 chicken breasts for £4ish in my butchers. Cook all them on a Sunday night, whack some decent veg/carb source or even brown pasta if req in some Tupperware boxes and that’s 5 dinners sorted for the working week.

If you don’t want chicken every day, you can get flat iron steaks or beef medallions for next to fuck all and all of those are loaded with protein and low on fat.

Made a hearty turkey broth last night.

Packed with 4 root veg, peppers and tomatoes, two green veg, and green lentils, together with leftover meat, herbs etc.

Incredibly healthy, but tasted bland. All a bit shite unfortunately.

Dunno why, but every year I'm underwhelmed by my turkey broth.

Back to something spicy tonight, blast this lurgi. Maybe north African with plenty of harissa and chilli.

Big pon of green lentils with chopped - mushrooms, peppers, red onions and chillies with a bit of boiled rice. Keeps me going when I'm in running/gym mode. It's actually nice too which came as a surprise when I first tried it 😂

Probably not so nice to those downwind of me though.

Yesterday’s dinner.
Roasted peppers, onions, tomatoes, bit of olive oil, salt pepper chilli flakes, in a tin foil parcel, close it up tight. Cook in the oven for 30 mins at 200 c.
15 to go boil up some water, pasta in a pan. Drain off the pasta, back in the pan, take out the veg, Chuck it in the pan, and serve.

Costs less than £2

Less than 150 calories.

Use wholewheat for less calories, and a more fulfilling meal.

The Roasted veg works great with a bit of cod or chicken for your protein, throw some broccoli and asparagus  for tea.

Doesn't sound too bad.

I caught a bit of a cookery program on the BBC red button. Doctor's kitchen or something. Vegan food. He did a pulled mushroom chilli thing that sounded strange at first, but in the end looked amazing.

Also some chickpea/sweet spud Indian burger thing that again I will be trying.

Went to bury market yesterday for some fish. Wanted to make my own battered fish and chips.

One stall shut, the other two had no cod, haddock, Pollock etc. Basically just sea bass and salmon, shell fish and a few bits.

Is there a fishing strike on somewhere?

I’m not sure but one thing I did notice is the price of salmon since Christmas has shot up. Went from about £3:30 for two fillets to £4:50, I know it can vary on price throughout the year but that’s ridiculous. Tesco have some cod in got some yesterday.

Yeah, It's nice considering It came from throwing random stuff in a pan one day. Gives you plenty of energy too!

That sounds interesting. Definitely need to eat more veg. It's a mood food for me. It's finally dawned on me if you eat shite you feel like it :D

100% agree.

Strange, as sometimes I have a desire for a particular food.

Recently, I wanted to eat carrots. Was having a "low" couple of days- after being out of action for a while when they thought I had kidney stones/infection.

Anyroad, I had a read, and it seems carrots are quite a good "mood food" together with other veg etc.

Listening to your body and having a balanced diet seems obvious, but it's clear that you do feel better when you eat better. Eating seasonal stuff seems to tie in with this too.

Had a go on one of them Peloton bikes.
You get on, connect to the WiFi, find a class and join a online fitness class on the screen meet the trainer and the rest of the class and do a cycle. It was good fun to do, then I looked at the price to get one at home.

Fuck that

If they're the ones that measure the way you pedal; upwards as well as downwards, we had one on trial at work. Rather a specialist bit of kit.

Don't get it. Why not just use a training bike at home, without the gubbins.

If you want the company, join a cycling club

Yeah I think it’s the same there’s like a FaceTime trainer there with the online classes, very demolition man.

Don’t have to leave home, doing it with a class, no risk of cars or potholes!

So just do it without paying for some bloke, fuck knows where, telling you to push harder!

Keep thinking of doing a bit in the winter at home, but wouldn't dream of spending like that. Rather put some music on, watch the cricket, or enjoy the birds in the garden.

Still got 7 mince pies* in the cupboard, 1/3 of Panettone and a shed load of chocolate (admittedly the latter isn't mine - but I swear I can hear it whispering to me).

*So, my original plan of not eating mince pies until the 20th December to prevent me from putting on excess weight has backfired - I'll now be eating them until mid-January instead! Managed to cut out the brandy cream though.

With regards to exercise - managed 4 walks in the Peak District (7-8 miles with hill climbs) and the Ingleton Falls walk in Yorkshire. Plus 75 mins of 11-a-side and then another 60 mins of 11-a-side last night. First football I've played in 18 months. Not quite ready for a run or weights yet.

Walking is the future though. Each time, was burning around 1500+ calories. Felt like enjoyment rather than a necessity that the gym seems to be.

First salad in 3 weeks this lunch time and back on the Hello Fresh malarkey for evening meals this week.

Yeah it’s not for me, 10 arrived at work today so I had a go. But at home that’s a very expensive clothes horse to have
