I keep imagining a strange beigey/yellowy colour, a bit like if you mixed custard with creosote.

Think chronic diarrhoea, but don't let that put you off.

Flour cakes is the most Boltonian terminology in the world. Reminds me of my Grandma.

Howard is a turmeric cod goujon in a toasted brioche bun and dill mayo kind of WUM.

Exactly the same with me. Thanks for that memory!

Well battered (a bit like how he/she see's a WWays wife)

Funny enough, it was always "Flour cakes" for me as a kid growing up in the 60's/70's.

Nowadays it's a "Barm" and anything else sounds a bit daft

ive had my tea, its 9:30, derby are about to condemn leeds to yet another season in the wilderness, and im seriously considering nipping out to the chippy for fish, chips and peas.

ffs

The big question which marks what kind of a man you are is where does your gravy go?

Yep. And Molly Bentham’s on Church Road were the best of the lot

No vinegar is the act of a deviant. Even Howard will have a drizzle of balsamic.

Bassini definitely had tomato ketchup on his Sunday roast

He probably likes Lobby as well

Red Snapper with a lobster bisque if you must know.

Think they do them in olympus chippy but I never get far enough down the menu past "pastie barm"

For complete transparency H:

I've never been to olympus chippy

I've never had a pastie barm

I had turmeric fish goujon on toasted brioche with a dill mayo for my tea yesterday. Gousto. Try it!

Clearly I am not only a deviant but a wrong one as well, as the only time I really enjoyed vinegar was with tripe (can you even buy it anywhere these days?).

Used to go to the UCP (United Cattle Products - I jest not!) when it was on Newport Street and buy honeycomb tripe for my mother and father as well as other delicacies such as cow heel (served as a stew) and pigs belly (which my father ate heavily peppered).

Can't say I was a big fan of offal but I was brought up on it.

I think Howard is from a different planet to me if he indulges himself on Cinzano's and I suspect the nearest he comes to chips (other than at the casino) is when he either opens a bag of what we would call 'crisp's' or if he's ordered Belgium Pomme Frities and Mayonaise.  Good luck to him though certainly beats eating cow's belly's any day of the week.

I don't think curry sauce had ever made its way as far north as Bolton in my youth, the first curry I ever had was from a Vesta packet meal!

Nat Lofthouse, Wyn Davies and Francis Lee were in the team back then, probably would do a whole lot better than Donaldson even now.

Happy days, long ago - and mostly vinegar free.

Pastie on a buttered barm (Ye Olde Pastie Shoppe).

Fish, Chips, Peas & CURRY.

Babys Yed Chips & GRAVY.

Owt else is for southern Nancy’s

Margarine over butter for me on my barm or roll as they are called up here much to my disgust

gravy on my fish as well everytime. Lashings of the stuff. Scraps on top of the gravy for extra artery blocking.
