Why would you roll out a system geared up to a specific vaccine when it’s only just been approved? So you can moan if it didn’t get approved at wasting money?

somebody asks your work for a quote for a job. You just crack on and manufacture it yes? Without an order or certainty it’s on? If it doesn’t come off just bin it? Sure you do

This. Big style.

This vaccine is one of a brand new type never made before. No one could know exactly how it was to be stored, nor pour huge resources in until it became clear it was safe and usable.

By his own admission, his wife's place has received new equipment clearly in anticipation of the other type of vaccine, which suggests a clear level of preparation and confidence in its application.

Hopeless cunts.

I should imagine that Pfizer knew exactly what temperature controls would need to be in place many weeks / months ago, around the time they were taking pre orders from us

no point agreeing something then springing that news on us at the 11th hour

Ordering the vaccine as part of a scattergun approach with a load of other vaccines is very different than to commission a full supply chain to deal with it. And you well know this birch

I’m just saying, when we agreed to buy X millions of them months ago we would have been made aware, so I doubt it’s new news to the relevant people

Given we have spunked billions on all sorts (£40bn on track and trace?), what’s another few tens of millions putting in place temperature controlled storage and transport that you may or may not need

They may well have, but until its proven effective (in trials) and safe, then the huge investment isn't going to happen. Especially, as Esco says, for a relatively small number.

Exactly birch

The storage requirements have been known for a couple of months at least

You may be correct. Not the point really though is it?

Feel free to address the real issue, and the fact that your wife's place has clearly been furnished with equipment in preparation for another vaccine which we have already ordered in much greater numbers.

I would also suggest, from my discussions with my supplier that the refrigeration company he spoke of, would have supplied their order at least two or 3 weeks ago. Given lead times etc, its probably reasonable to say orders were placed at the very least a month ago, so that would suggest some early moves were made in advance of any approvals.

Lambasted for all of it. Cant have it all ways. Hypocrisy stinks.

Not sure anyone has lambasted thr government for investing in Nightingale hospitals and ventilators that we might have / might still need

Likewise I don’t think they would be lambasted for investing in a deep freeze distribution centre to store a vaccine

Billions in an app and £150m on masks that didn’t work is fair game IMO (although I’m sure done with the right intentions)

You’ve just done it

I don’t think they’ve handled it well. Far from it. But they can’t have it all ways.

I don’t think the vaccine logistics is as easy as you make out. Ive taken to believing jimmy krankie on certain matters such as this as she’s quite open. She says it’s an absolutely incredibly complex nightmare. Make of  that what you will. That doesn’t smack to me of buying a few  fridges.

Sorry, they've had months and months to be ready to get it where it needs to be

Its not a secret about the storage issues

No excuses

Dido Harding told us that there was no way we could forecast the surge in testing requirement when the school and colleges went back.

They'll probably outsource the vaccinations to their school mates from Deloitte or Serco rather than use the medical profession.

SNAFU

I don’t think I was lambasting them, just sharing a links of where we have spent money on something that we may need but later didn’t use. You seemed to mock the idea that anyone would do this as bad business practice (which in normal circumstances I agree it would be)

Anyway early start tomorrow. Customer order for 50mill for a job they’ve tendered for but haven’t won yet. great business sense it’s what makes the works tick didn’t you know

Anyroad, I fully agree it will be complex, any more or less complex than the other hundreds of thousands of issues that have had to be overcome? creating a vaccine from scratch in 9 months being the big one that springs to mind

However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, the vaccine got approved last week and it’s going in peoples arms this week so they must have found a way

Thank god
