It looks as though the litmus test will soon arrive. Deaths are plummeting but cases are beginning to increase.

But what is the percentage of positive test results of tests done ? Surely that’s a crucial metric?

Boris scaring us/ warning us of a 3rd wave from the EU?

Long odds, I’d say; if the vaccine doesn’t work on any new variants, if we let anybody in (at all) with it, then maybe.

You've suggested that twice in a few days, do you really think they're trying to scare the UK population?

Not very high at all I'd imagine, comfortably single figures. I think we're now testing at close to two million per day so it stands to reason that there is an increase in the raw numbers.

My main point is that there will come a point where cases begin to increase and we will find out

A. Whether there's a significant increase in correlating hospitalisations and deaths

B. Whether the Government/SAGE/country hold their nerve and resist increasing restrictions as they increase

I’m keeping an open mind.

But, why else did Boris mention this 3rd wave?

Not really important, I don’t think

It looks as though the link between cases and hospitalisations and deaths is broken, as we have most of the vulnerables vaccinated.

I’m with you on this

He needs to keep expectations low.

Cant blame him to be honest. It’s probably sensible.

Probably because there is currently a 3rd wave ripping through our nearest neighbours  -  I personally don't think he's trying scare us, but he's putting in the reasoning, nice an early, as to why he wont' be "bringing forward" any of the timescales that he's already set out for us, no matter what the death/cases count lowers itself to.

If he was trying to scare us, then it's not working, as I don't think anybody is really very scared are they, I certainly don't know anybody who is scared at the minute?

Had my jab.

What an absolutely well run operation it all is.

Every credit to all involved it couldn’t be any smoother.

Got a dead arm. Gonna wank all night and pretend its someone else doing it.

That’s an odd side effect.

Or did stevie wonder do yours?

It is weird, normally I feel the flu jab and have a sore arm for a day or two.

Covid jab, didn't even know she had done it (nails) but had a sore arm for 3 to 4 days.

Not hard like you wigan folk

If the data continues to improve, I can’t see Boris holding to the dates outlined.

Just had a chat with my brother: he used to work for an employment law firm.

His view was that an employer might be able to insist on it, but there also arguments against it, so it would probably have to be tested in court ultimately.

I got the impression that his comments were as much about folk not expecting too much in terms of travel to other nations etc, as any great expectation of another spike here.

That said, France is experiencing a rise in the number of cases of the Brazil variant which I think puts the willies up the medical bods here. Perhaps expect to see a tightening in travel arrangements with our nearest and dearest. :)

I think he has to.

It’s law isn’t it? The roadmap.

if not, he may open the pubs sooner as a counterweight to the airports staying shut

I can't see him not doing.

That would go against the medical gurus' 4 week analysis period of each change.

Going against this agreed protocol now, would, I believe potentially put him at odds with his own ministers let alone opponents.

I'd be really surprised if he considers pulling any of those dates in. I just can't see him changing from what he's already outlined

I think he knows from previous errors that being over-cautious in this respect is the way to go

3 months from now, you can spit in someone's face at the bar in a crowded pub!

Moreover, one of the conditions is numbers vaccinated. Until the target of all adults has been hit, just can't see it.

I agree and will have a charity bet with anyone who thinks otherwise.

Not what I've most been looking forward to!

Let’s have a 50 quid for charity if the main dates in Boris’ roadmap get moved forward or not?

sound alright?
