A cover up job springs to mind wigan are losing a shit ton of money and are fucked. And you are right that they’re not attractive I wouldn’t say to anyone of a sane mind in current state. Need to be self sustainable same as the model we and many clubs are going for. It will become the new norm outside of the prem and a few others. Thing is though, as long as they are only 1 promotion from the riches of the prem then someone might fancy having a gamble of chucking some cash at them for a year or 2 and see if they can sneak up. If they drop then it becomes a long game and lot of investment before you could make any money.

Wigan are probably the last club in the championship who anyone outside of a Wigan fan would want to invest in.
July 15, 20206 yr Wasn't the plan -12 points if it relegates them, or -12 if they stay up at the start of next season? if so they'll be fucked next season either way.
July 15, 20206 yr Its -12 this season whether it relegates them or not There will be no punishment next year

It amazes me also

July 16, 20206 yr I’m struggling to see how Wigan rugby can subsidise at least the short term losses of Wigan Athletic, even when crowds return you can see the football side going to have to drastically reduce their wages and budget to survive on their income, assuming that is still the main plan for the football club? Edited July 17, 20206 yr by Mounts Kipper
July 17, 20206 yr Its nowt to do with wigan rl. Its the chairman of Wigan rl and some other investors wanting to buy the club. The two would still be completely separate. However it could work out well for the rl team as they have to pay rent to the football team to use the stadium. Wouldn't it be lovely if the rl chairman bought the football club then ran it into the ground and delivered them back to non league...

Whether 2 seperate entities or not it’s the same owner, money coming from him to support a loss leading football club isn’t likely to improve the rugby clubs finances.

Lenagan isn’t looking to put any money in to Latics, he’d just be the figurehead for the various investors that he is trying to get together.

I’m thinking pissing in the wind, I cannot see anyone getting involved given the financial shortfall, if Covid had happened at the time of our takeover I think it would be likely we wouldn’t be here now. Wouldn’t surprise me if there are quite a few Standish-types who fancy a crack at it, especially as nobody could get a look in under the Whelan’s.

Mmmm, £12m a year deficit, they’ll need to sell 75% of their players to get rid of their commitments. Fuckin hell, who’s gonna take that lot on? I honestly think that they’ll struggle to find a buyer. It’ll end up worse than they imagine. 👍🏻
July 17, 20206 yr Everyone knows how’s desperate they are for money, knocks at least 50% of the value of their players. They will need to sell at least 6 to cover the wages for the next 12 months(assuming they replace half). We’ll take Robinson for £3m. Nah, Milan we’re bidding 6 rising to 10 in Jan. ok, we’ll find someone else. Hang on, come back. Let’s talk. Balls to em
July 17, 20206 yr They have no charges recorded against any of their assets, and they have a number of players who will attract a fee. I think they'll probably find a buyer relatively easily, but they'll probably have to be run sustainably.

Was thinking the same the other day if Covid would of hit when Ken was running it or the administrators then we wouldn’t of come out of it . Best time for it to hit Wigan though

Without going all custard on you , you realise they don’t have any assets within the football club to pledge anywhere hence why no charges registered?

Don't they own a share of the stadium, and "our" training ground? I imagine they must also own or have a share in various car parks and land around the stadium. The holding company has previously had charges registered against it.

No property within the football club (trading company). I did have a look other week and found where the ground was held and it’s worth about 40m in the accounts of that entity. But how the two are linked I can’t remember as I fell asleep. also got to remember this info is outdated as since the boy bought it he could have done alsorts. Companies house only tells you so much. the company that holds the ground is also in admin so it’s all in the mix. Unless as I say it’s been moved out of there which is possible. But whoever is owed the money will undoubtedly have recourse to that asset anyway. Edited July 17, 20206 yr by Escobarp
