Give it a rest about Doyle. He's nowhere near as bad as you constantly make out

Total bollocks imo. That reads like the summary from a man that would have been happier if we’d drawn or lost.

We have certainly got better quality players to choose from now but until we can set them up to create more chances for Doyle we aren't getting out of this league imo. That said there is plenty of permutations, Evatt just needs to find the right one.

Yeh we’ve got options now that we didn’t have earlier in the season & our bench is much much stronger.Fwiw i think due to our shit start we’ll finish just outside the play-offs this time, but next season we’ll hit the ground running & piss automatic promotion.

We kept a clean sheet...

Aye, proper strange comment

What I meant is that the defence looked very skittish and looked like it wasn't sure what it was doing.

I reckon we need an experienced defender/sweeper to marshal the young 'uns and keep them in check, a Colin Hendry type.

Baptiste is 35, and put in a Man of the Match performance. Santos too. If you think our defence "isn't worth a wank" after keeping a clean sheet, you're watching the wrong sport. What else could they have done? The opposition are always going to have chances. God forbid - sometimes they might even score. But they didn't. Because our defenders did their jobs.

You only mentioned half of the defenders, what about the others?

Also we have been shipping a lot of goals all season which has cost us many points, we need to sort our defence out so thhe rest of the players have total confidence in it and can build from the back.

WE KEPT A CLEAN SHEET. THE OPPOSITION DIDN'T SCORE. WE DIDN'T CONCEDE ANY GOALS.

How many matches have there been where we haven't kept a clean sheet?

Our defence is not upto standard and one clean sheet does not a season make.

Are you kidding, we deserved nothing we were crap.they outplayed us all over the pitch, we’re weak, spineless and clueless and lucky as well today. Until we can put teams like this to the sword we’re going nowhere I’m afraid.

You are a fuckin waste of DNA , I cant stand you in the BEN comments and I cant stand you coming on here and spouting nothing but negative drivel you clueless twat . The sooner you fuck off and die of syphillis in a damp flat in Ipswich the better , you thrusting tusk of a blood clot.

As it’s the middle of the night you might want to edit that one pal.

Negative posts without any context wind me up no end too. I think some people thrive and live off negativity - and I really don’t understand it.

But you might want to retract some of the personal stuff. I’ve no idea who he is but He’s probably as passionate as most of us but chooses to dwell on the negative.

Fair enough .
I take it back and Ill apologise to him next time he's on.

Sarcevic might not have been as good as maybe we were expecting, but he's one of the only central midfielders we have that actually gets in the box and make runs beyond the Striker. We need that in this team.

100% correct.

He has some quality. That was lacking from this team at the start of the season. We are getting there, but there will be more ups and downs before we do.

Morning waddy 🤣🤣

A promotion is really there for the taking.

Ive changed my opinion from earlier that we haven’t the players to do this. A good transfer window with IE making good signings. I like the fact he’s signing short terms or loans that our attainable to keep longer term.

The challenge I think coming up is how we put teams to the sword. I’ve still not seen us put anyone to work with ease. Every win seems to be hard thought. Promoted teams can win the odd game in 2nd gear and I think we will need this to go on a run required.

Who the fuck are you??

I think Doyle his hold up play is limited, he's slow , doesn't work the channel that well,  and doesn't help the way we want to play. His legs are gone, all this is just my opinion. Part of our problem has been being able to keep the ball up the pitch and he is the common denominator. Yes he has scored some goals, but that's his job, but he has been an integral part of an under performing squad, and as the marquee signing, don't think he lived up to the billing.

He is 10th in the goals per minute chart, so hardly ripping up any tress for the love in you and others give him, so why is he beyond reproach?.

Yesterday I commented he should have been taken off to leave us more pace up top with 10 men, again my opinion, and what most other teams do. But you and others just get prissy, don't offer anything other than how dare you he is our top scorer!!! Yada yada yada. He has played virtually minute of every game, so as the league's top scorer last season, I expect more! But stats would suggest he is a journeyman average striker.

To be fair to him he is a grafter and not sure our formation does him any favours, but that is Evatt as much as him. And that clearance he made right at the end was v good. So it not all negative.

I am not even suggesting we have anyone better, or he is the worst player n the team, that is your perception. I comment because I expect more from.him than most,  but he will not be mentioned in the same breath in the future as some of the decent forwards we've had. But what I will say he has done nothing to warrant the love in you and others have for him!

And as long as it keeps winding plebs like you up, encourages me to keep dropping his name in there.

Ultimately we all want success and I would like to see an alternative to Doyle up front, then we would know one way or another, but not really sure who his competition is, maybe Miller??

Have a nice day snowflake.

This match thread is about the game yesterday.  We won and kept a clean sheet.

If you want to open up a debate about how shit our shit defence is in your opinion, how about opening up a new thread?

Do you not think John had a great game defensively and attacking wise? I think Jones grew into it, although I don’t think he’s done as well as Brockbank and with Lee/Williams/Tutte/Thomason, we have decent enough protection in front of them. Yesterday they looked the best they had done all season defending set-pieces and balls into the box.

We've conceded 1 goal in 3 games

And as I think you agree Santos and Baptiste seem to be the most stable CB pairing we’ve had all season.

So with all that I mind I can understand why people are questioning the strangeness of your timing claiming that “our defence is "Not woth a wank!!!"

So by saying our Formation doesn't do him any favours,  you are agreeing we aren't playing to his strengths and therefore not getting the best out of him through not fault of his own.

Listen he's joint 5th top scorer in the league in a team that has struggled badly for cohesion for the majority of the campaign and he's managed to get double figures .

Yesterday if you bothered to watch him with an open mind you would have seen someone constantly running their bollocks off for scant reward .

Just look at his reaction when he or the team scores , he's fucking buzzing about it . That's the type of player I want in the team , let's see how the rest of the season pans out before we consign him to the scrap heap .

We have conceded 6 goals in last 7 games.

7 points from 9 since transfer window signings started to have an impact.

Every signing in transfer window is an upgrade on what we had.

As players settle in, Evatt gets to his best formation we will improve, it is a tough ask to think about play offs from where we are but with a bit of luck and competent refs it is doable.

We have some very strange people who claim to support us !

Evatt's had half a season of us not making the most of Doyle's abilities, had a transfer window but still not really addressed it for me. Although we've brought in a couple of marquee signings that could be anything neither are the more physical, robust partner that would really help him. We also still don't get enough crosses in from high enough wide positions for him to attack with head or feet

I still think Evatt's too stubbornly trying to fit Doyle into a shape and way he wants to play rather than making the shape and way suit him. A simpler, more direct 4-4-2 would give him more of what he thrives on. With the players we have now not that easy to set up but I wouldn't mind seeing a left side of Jackson with John in front of him and a right with Brockbank / Jones and Isgrove, with Afolayan up front, closer to Doyle, he's not the most physical and probably won't win that much in the air but his nippiness and quick feet would be an asset in working openings with Doyle and he's shown he can press defenders and steal it from them.

Doyle hasn't a lot of pace but spends too much time too detached from what's going on behind him, waiting ages for things to build up, he needs it to him more quickly and more regularly. If that happened he'd get 20 before May

Possibly, or does Doyle not do enough/not able to make this formation work?? That's the question.

I have never questioned his effort or endeavour, but expect more than just that. I expect him to be able to pass 5 yards to the unmarked Fonz without hitting the sole defender!

All I want is bog standard centre forward play, hold the ball up and pop it back off to the midfield, or small mercies turn it around the corner for our wingers. Now no one objectively can say Doyle does this to ant great effect.

Personally he always seem to want to drop deep so play him there as the 10 and get someone else leading the line.

However, I just feel there is something fundamentally wrong somewhere when have so many attacking players on the pitch but struggle to score goals, or even create that man chances. First half hour looked an improvement yesterday but soon reverted to type

starting to get some consistency, let 1 goal in, in 3 games, good run of fixtures coming up, keep winning and who knows.

crap red card, from a ref who has sent 5 off in our last 6 he has reffed, surely get that over turned

only negative is we should be putting teams like that to the sword

Aye, 1-0 and you get nervous every time the opposition get a set peice
