ITV and Sky are down the middle, they are just holding the government to account as they should.

Mirror I will allow, Independent not so much but who the fuck reads the morning star? Can you even buy it from your local shop or anywhere for that matter, does it even exist still?

I could add the Spectator and Evening Standard too, still think it's even?

Seems to me the once big players are still run by old money, old connections and old grumpy hacks that don't like change. They still have influence in the establishment of old school media of course but they can see their own demise in front of their eyes.

Do you think they are supporting this current appalling shitshow of a government because they want the best for you?

The editor of The Express may as well be typing bound and gagged with a gun pointing at his head.

The newspaper press is dominated by centre-right to right-wing political views

The broadcast media is typically left-leaning

Which policies do you think the Biden administration have enacted that have led to a rise in homelessness in the US?

So the right wing all of a sudden get a social conscience when it suits.

No only when you have a Dem president, same with the border and the national debt

Which policies of the government here have led to a rise in homelessness?

🤣

That's what I'm trying to say. I don't think it's got anything to do with specific policies. It's more down to the long term consequences of COVID.

I agree. Together with inflation/interest rates as a result of the war.

Anyone can pick an issue and blame it on a current government- it happens continually, whether justified or not!

We know full well it happens here all the time, and throughout the media world.

Yep - that's why I try not to immediately pin anything that goes wrong on the government of the time.

Although I think with this lot - with the length of time they've had in charge, anywhere where we're tracking well below the rest of the G7 is doing is a cause for concern..... I think we're entitled to have expected a great deal more from them. And maybe they would if we'd not spent the best part of a decade arguing about Brexit.

The same covid issues have to be considered too. Our economy suffered more than others during it- supposedly because of a greater amount of service industry here.

That is the point- expert economists all over will disagree as to the causes and solutions and folk will latch onto whatever they see fit.

I just find the whole negativity greatly unhelpful, and precisely the same will be thrown at Starmer if the polls prove accurate.

Many of the approaches won't vary significantly: he's ruled out his re-nationalisation programme and there are suggestions the big green spend may be slowed.

The non-dom set up will be a bone of contention should it not yield as much as planned, and no one knows what the big money folk will do.

Similarly the vat on private education.

Arguments either way, but the proof will be in the pudding.

And unfortunately, he's going to be lumbered with this increasing pressure to spend much more on the military, as well as the migration issue.

Good luck to whoever gets in, lots to sort and whilst folk with brickbats at the ready.

A mixture of his policies have led to the rise in homelessness. Its no surprise that the most affected are in democrat run cities.

It's also what he's done to curb the rise. It's not worked.

Three of those are behind paywalls so I can't read them. The fourth isn't behind a paywall, but it just reads like a polemic and doesn't mention anything about homelessness.

Anyway, I was more interested in your opinion, rather than reading a bunch of links. What do YOU think?

Two Telegraph posts are behind Paywalls?

Anyway ... the links provided are a good source of information that shows how homelessness is on the rise in US.

Yeah - paywall central.

Like I said - I'm genuinely interested in what you think. Or even if you could surmise what the people in the articles think.

Long rally's back and forth over the net are fine but all that is really needed is some insight into the current Afro American view of Biden and the Democrats.

Does not augur well for them when the time to vote comes around. They have twigged that they were much better off under Trump.

That's what I've been trying to get my head around, and what I can't figure out.

It sounds like unemployment amongst black people in America was at a historic low during the first part of DT's presidency. But it's been argued that that's because the economy was booming and there were more jobs available, which meant employers were more likely to cast the net more widely to find workers. From what I'm reading that strong economy was already happening and wasn't because of some DT effect (although he claimed it was).

So then COVID and the Ukraine war happened, inflation rose and companies cut back on taking on new staff and were less inclined to recruit from that wider candidate pool (basically the opposite of what is described above) so employment amongst black people fell during Biden's administration.

The other thing seems to be this 'platinum plan for black America' which DT unveiled. Which is a two page document with lots of admittedly exciting promises on it if you're from that community.

This is all just from some reading last night. I don't understand US economics or politics to assess whether that's true or not. But seems to be the general gist amongst commentators.

Whether it's true or not is less important I suppose than whether people believe the DT narrative. ie that the results were because he is marvellous and that Biden is senile and doesn't care about black people. Which is again, an easy story to follow if you're from that community and aren't really concerned about the nuances. Which Is argue is what populist figures rely on.

Anyway - I'm trying to be stoic about it now. There's nothing I can to influence things. I very much doubt a back and forth on here is going to swing the election. I imagine DT will win and by a margin, but then I was wrong about DT first time around and wrong about the Brexit outcome too, so clearly my judgement about world affairs isn't the greatest!

Anyway - if anyone has read this down to the bottom then I am very impressed and would like to give you £5 as a reward! 🤣

If Biden was smart enough to step down and let someone younger have a go I reckon Trump would be worried.

Same way if the Republicans got over their fear of Trump and put forward someone coherent they'd romp it.

At the minute it's the old South Park 'Turd Sandwich vs Giant Douche' story yet again.

Entirely agree.
