I’m not a Muslim, if that’s what you’re asking. But I’ve nothing against Islam either. As with most religions it has its extremist elements.

But with two billion Muslims worldwide, I’m amazed people even try generalising about something so broad.

I’m not one to think that an atheist is any better a person than a practicing Muslim or Christian. But that’s probably just me being a naive snowflake.

But there are many different teachings of Islam, the same as Christainity.

Where we are now is not just down to religion but the geopolotics of the west and east.

I mean, look at the Islamic Golden Age, huge world wide advances for mankind whilst say in Britian was mud huts and clinging one the last vestiages of Romano Britain.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is to dislike Islamic extremism isn't the same wanting to throw the whole of Islam into a cultural fire.

There is also another discussion around colonisialism and immigration which is also a bit of a side bar to this but gets poured into the same pot and therefore it's difficult to extract which topic is in discussion about religion, about home politics and about geo-political history as it's all part of the same thing.

But, if you think that means personally I defend any of the more extreme points of any of the major religions from the subjugation of women to the views of same sex relationships then you couldn't be more wrong. It's just its a bigger topic being it about are the tenets of any major religion against what it means to live in a liberal, secular, western society.

Indeed. Works both ways though.

You get folk leaping to their defence and blindly defending them or their beliefs when extremely valid points are raised.

There are huge problems within their faith and how their ideals and culture mix with ours. To raise these issues isnt a bad thing and you to hope over time these issues will subside the long their faith evolves.

Again, you’re generalising about 2 billion people by saying their values are prejudiced.
 

Does homophobia, grooming, extremism etc. have any place in our society? Course not. I’ve never been afraid to call that out when it comes to Muslims. Was involved in the teaching union campaign around the homophobia teachers in Birmingham were receiving from elements of the Muslim community.

But lets not pretend those views represent everyone when it comes to something as broad as Islam. There are extreme Christian groups (sorry to be talking about cats not dogs) who have no place in our society. Does that mean Christianity is right wing and prejudiced? Does it fck.

 There was a very interesting SNP leadership election up here where the Christian candidate was seen as having far more prejudiced views than the Muslim one. 
 

Research shows Muslims are now becoming more ‘progressive’ in their views. Just look at the recent cousin marriage data coming out of Bradford 😉

I think anyone arguing in good faith would have to acknowledge that Islamism currently presents a significantly greater threat to the values of our iberal democracy than fundamentalist Christianity does

Not half.

Told the story about feet washing before, but the filthy animals would put loads of bog roll on the seat if the cleaners were lucky. If not then their refusal to sit would result in a flock of seagulls absolutely everywhere. 

The porcelain, the floor, it didn't matter.

Then go and wash their shitty hands in the sink, followed by their feet.

Then happily fuck off and carry on their studies as if it was perfectly normal.

It was so bad that the stones were closed for a while. Then they were refurbished with signs put up telling users to respect them.

A simple room with a few holes in the floor and a tap on a hose pipe, like a campsite, would have sufficed.

Guess "Asian bogs" wouldn't have gone down well though.
