kent_white Posted July 10, 2023 Author Posted July 10, 2023 Just wondering - as a liberal lefty - can I now get a bank account with Coutts. Probably one which gives me free FAC breakdown cover? Quote
Ani Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) Based on Twitter posts by GBNews people they are running a full time nonce alert service regarding the BBC. It is strange how they are saying the BBC should name the accused but no such demands of The Sun or indeed just naming him themselves. The BBC as his employer has more restrictions than anyone else in terms of what they can say. Edited July 10, 2023 by Ani Quote
Casino Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 they were bleating last week, stopping just short of an insistence that firms be forced to advertise with them Quote
Ani Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 (edited) Laura Farris maybe the most decent Tory MP going. https://twitter.com/haggis_uk/status/1678461089258827776?s=46 Edited July 10, 2023 by Ani Quote

Ani Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 The rest of the debate was depressing in terms of MPs just not understanding the rules. The rules basically are you do not criticise the committee outside of parliament , if you think there is an issue there are paths to do so. But going on Twitter spouting is not one of those. Fabricant once again made a fool pf himself but tbf he had the good grace to do so with good humour and apologise. Plenty of Tories also stood right behind the committee. Quote

Far more widespread now than simply political. Latest story- a highly successful business man went into his branch and asked for £25k in cash. An account with over a million going into/through it over the year. He was questioned by someone in the bank as to it's purpose, and replied it was for spending on Christmas presents. Told he couldn't have it- his own money! Understandably vented his annoyance and then had his account closed! Now, for most of us, taking out £25k in cash would seem weird, almost anathema. However for a high-roller, maybe it's what they do. Certainly shouldn't be a bank employee's right to question a customer so much, then refuse. So long as it's within the account's limits/conditions then the customer should be entitled to his or her money. Quote
