Happy Wanderer - Rest in peace 😢😢

Thanks to Burnden for this info on the other  thread

Just seen a post on my neices fb , turns out she is mates with Happys daughter ..... I don't know how to post a link here but this is what the post says ..

In July 2020, my dad was diagnosed with a stage 4 glioblastoma - an aggressive brain tumour that has no cure, out of absolutely nowhere. We had no idea and overnight our lives were turned upside down. In August 2020 he underwent surgery, and then started chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and was lucky enough to be selected for a immunotherapy clinical trial. Thankfully, my dad is still with us a year on, but this condition has a 5 year survival rate of 20%. Glioblastomas affect only 0.00321% of the population. Or 3.21 individuals per 100,000.
My mum has been absolutely amazing throughout this whole last year, from driving him to the other side of Manchester for his treatment everyday to giving my dad his medication each morning and night- she is such an incredible woman and I am so proud to call her my mum.
To top it off, she’s running 5K everyday in October for The Brain Tumour Charity- a charity focused on research surrounding brain tumours and aiming to boost the survival rate past 5 years, and hopefully find a cure.
If you could donate anything, it would mean the world, not only to my family, but also hopefully make sure in the future that no one has to go through what my dad has in the past 12 months.
Thank you ❤️

Nice mention of him by the announcer at half time today.

Influenced my life massively by creating wanderersways. Been about 20 years..

Met him a few times and was a genuinely nice bloke.

RIP Neil - Condolences to all the family

Long time reader, first time poster. Thanks to Neil for creating a place that has been my go too for many many years for transfer, admin and all other news! RIP to a man who created a space where you can still feel the warmth and humour of the terraces despite being many miles away.

Post again, pal

Ive hardly had a signal for a couple of days and found out from @BOWTUN BAKEDs message on my phone

Hes just one of probably hundreds of folk id never have gone beyond nodding terms without this place

If neils aim 20 odd years ago was just to provide a chat forum, he failed massively

Good point.

The social events, The Euro jaunts,The away days, The money raised for many different causes, the friendships, the camaraderie, the banter , the togetherness, the memories made.

Rest In Eternal Peace Neil ❤

Only just seen this. Awful news. Met Neil a few times in my numerous visits. Great lad and a gentleman. Some of the fantastic experiences I had in Europe and at home would never have happened but for WWays. A big thanks for that, Happy Wanderer.

RIP mate. It was a pleasure and a privilege to know you.

Only met him once on a euro trip but been on here a long time. RIP Neil, and thanks for everything.

As a White born and bred down South Rivals and this place have been one of the greatest gifts ever.

Thank you Happy and rest well 🤍

Very sad news, thoughts with and condolences to Neil's family. No doubt he did many great things in his life but setting this platform up would definitely have been one of them. The only forum I go on, never felt the need to look elsewhere, get all that I need from this one and very much enjoy reading all the views even if not that prolific a poster myself.

RIP Happy.

Sad news, thoughts are with his family.

This will always be HW site. That will never change. For years and years Neil had for a avatar the logo that was on the front of the club shop at Burnden Park. Would be nice tribute if we could have that as a header on the forum.

For the ones who weren't around back in them days the club shop was called The Happy Shop. And I think, but I may be wrong, the name of that logo was the Happy Wanderer. God knows where he got that picture from because I've been searched for hours looking for a good one. This obviously won't be good enough for a tribute pic but this is what it looked like. Anyway, just a thought

Surprising what you find when you search “Happy Wanderer”

Did we once have a terrace chant using this?

Never met Neil personally but from the posts on here I wish I had,  he must have been some guy? RIP Neil, you will certainly be remembered by many.
