Various others from that era along with the revival bands like Purple Hearts, The Chords etc. Beatles - no. Pop shite never did it for me. Slippery slope to abominations like Abba and Boney M. All trumped by the music of black America and Jamaica though. Sam And Dave, Marvin, King Stitt, Sir Coxsone Downbeat plus others of those genres get my motor running. Quote

jmjhb Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Maximo Park at Victoria Warehouse, highly enjoyable. Bunch of middle-aged indie kids reliving their youth, including me. Quote

Liked a couple of their tunes like books from boxes and they were regulars on xfm so know and liked their singles but could properly not get in to them for some reason Quote

There's something fun about gigs where it's a bunch of middle aged folk trying their best to pretend they're still in their prime. Quote

Zico Posted February 9 Posted February 9 5 hours ago, jmjhb said: I don't think they got the acclaim they deserved, but that genre was really saturated 20 years ago aye, was definitely drifting away from the indie scene in terms of what I was listening to around that time, because it was getting boring and not a patch on the 90s, referred to as indie landfill I seem to recall, so probably couldn't be arsed taking it any further than singles Quote
Not in Crawley Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Maximo Park weren't indie landfill really - it was the likes of Razorlight, Pigeon Detectives, Kasier Chiefs, The Fratellies, The Rifles, Wombats, Hard Fi etc etc etc I started listening to stuff like Broken Social Scene, Stars, Metric and Fiest about then as there was some great stuff coming from Canada. But nah Maximo Park were around at that time but too musically different to be part of the landfill I'd say. More akin to Bloc Party whose first album was great. Although, id say a lot of late 90s indie was just as bad, its just by the 2000s was a bit older but i reckon if id been 15/16 we'd have been into it just as much. Quote

Yeah I was a big fan. Funnily emough they're all doing a big tour together, only in North America though. New Pornos too. Quote

Yeah saw that - was wondering if they might do Europe afterwards. Fiest aside they all never made it quite as big over here as I thought they might. Quote

All the bands ive listen their songs were pretty much interchangable. Hence why they are most often cited as Landfill - totally swapable in terms of music. Maximo Park certainly wasn't - there was a term indie sleaze that seems to be around which fitted the sligjtly more celebral bands of that era. Like id suggest Editors first ablum was a lot better than the mire of The View, Kooks, The Automatic - urgh, gives me shivers and flashbacks of Soccer AM and Hoxton Fins 😁 Quote
