tickets for Yeah Yeah Yeahs on sale tomorrow

2 gigs in June, Manchester and London

they put on a good show

none of this should be a surprise anymore

but

2 tickets - £38.50 each

fine

but then

Facility Charge £1.50 x 2
Service Charge £5.60 x 2

and top it off
Handling Fee £2.75

they're etickets

so at least I didn't have to pay for delivery

£93.95

I'd rather they just said

tickets are £47 each, no hidden extras

Of my top 5 live acts (based on fun I have their shows rather than musical talent) I've already seen 2 since the end of lockdown in Skindred and Alestorm.

Just got tickets for The Hell at the Star and Garter to tick off number 3.

Metallica need to do a tour for number 4 and someone will have to resurrect Lemmy so Motorhead can tour again to round off the quintet.

Not quite the same but Flogging Molly are out and about in August including the Ritz.

I'll be there. Always wild at the front at Flogging Molly gigs. Especially when The Bronx supported them last time they played there.

Got two Glastonbury tickets in the resale this morn. Roll on June, walking down the train tracks, the smell of veggie curry and the sound of distant bongo drums.

Me too fella :good:   Bearded as a warm up in May first though.

But how does everyone make their money? That's the shakedown and everyone's in on it. Its not nice, but there it is.

It feels like a different set of fees everytime i buy a ticket

I'm sure there only ever used to be an admin fee

I don't even know what the difference between a service and facility charge is

But the service charge for NIN was £2.20 more than YYYs per ticket

But proportionally less of the ticket price

The other fees were the same

So seems random

I'm not arsed as such, like i said, just round it all up and don't break it down

You go to Brixton? Wagwan my brudda

Its 10 minutes from my house, the academy is my local venue, the Electric is good for smaller gigs. Best area in London to watch bands (although I'm South London biased)- don't have to go central, direct train home and all the bars and food you need all in walking distance. Best night out in London is Brixton.

The facility charge is set up by the venue - it goes directly to them not Ticketmaster.

So basically, most venues have an API which goes into a venue's ticketing system (if they have one) and takes out a set allocation (as some venues just go through TM so that TM give them more promotion, others a range of agents and therefore a ranges of APIs) It not a huge amount of set up, but because of the complexity of allocations nowadays venues will charge a fee as you need more people to manage this (even though an API is just a direct link)

Nowadays, you can't sell a bean to anything in major centres unless you are selling through third party agents as they have been data and - you the public- like to purchase digitally through them.

So say, See tickets and TM want to sell the hot ticket they will say what data they have and what they will do to promote you if you give them exclusivity. Other times you split the allocation between a number of providers, and then sometimes a provider won't have an API set up and you need to manually allocate a set number of tickets, say 200; if they haven't sold but another agent has you have to then mark back these tickets to the venue and then onto another provider - which is why you'll see 'released tickets' for a show that looks sold out if you go directly to a venue.

So there you go, its a fucking headache and I wish it was a simple as putting up posters when I started 20 years ago. But it's not, and we all want paying, and it's all about data and the customer gets screwed but that's capitalism for you, if people want something, they'll pay, and my clients want a pound of that transaction thank you, so they can pay agencies like us to work with ticket agents like them.
