Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

Depends when you Passed your test. As they removed it a standard at some point

Yup. Got stitched by in laws to pick up a 7.5T refrigerated van from Preston to help move people as "you've driven transits, ain't you?".

Reverse gearbox and air brakes was a barrel of laughs.

Was thinking why don't companies just flood the gaff with 7.5 tonners and get every fucker out of work driving em?

Cos there isn’t any going spare. Like rocking horse shit all commercial vehicles right now

Would jump in over winter when I'm quiet, but the dvla restrict epileptics to 3.5t max.

Surely they're putting on extra tests for new drivers now relaxations have happened.

Thing is your van will be worth more today than it was when you bought it comfortably. It’s madness

Spent all day Wednesday finalising a 1 million plus building project with a new client.

Got to tell him tomorrow I cannot deliver by his next April deadline as the wall cladding has gone to a 26 weeks lead in.

We're in a right fkkn mess.

Some painted tin sheets with a bit of insulation glued to it.

They tell me they can't get the profiled metal at the moment and I'm not the only one... if the new works aren't being agreed today we'll all be stood still next spring.

Right

Beer, meat, gas, petrol, shortages I can cope with but now shit is getting real

Warbies have bad to stop production on crumpets

WILD WEST OUT HERE

Major changes coming in over car and lorry driving, aimed at freeing up more test slots.

Car drivers will no longer need to do additional test to tow. Going back to like it used to be (grandfather rights)

I don't usually shop at the supermarket. Just tend to get things delivered nowadays - but I was pretty shocked at how bare things were in Tesco up at the Unibol today. Only looked about half full.

Pretty much everyone currently under 40 has had the 7.5 tonne removed from their licence unless they'vetaken it...  That happened in 1997 iirc so anyone who passed after that point did not have the grandad rights..

That was a huge mistake,  then removing towing rights, then restricting hours and making truck drivers become tied in red tape.

I was lucky in a way when I started at the council. Passed early enough so was just thrust a set of keys and told to drive a long wheel based transit with a long trailer with a mower on it.

No training despite never having towed before. Had a bit of practice reversing the bugger in a park.

To be honest it probably wasn't the right thing to do. Newer passers had to be trained then put through tests, obviously at a fair cost.

Came in handy for towing the caravan later- the missus would get out and make me do any reversing!

Called into Sainsbury’s after work. All’s well there. Full shelves. Don’t panic people.

That’s the Sainsbury’s where Hick Hargreaves stood for 170 years before they shipped it out to the Czech Republic. The coffee section is where my office used to be.
What did the EU do for me and hundreds of others eh?

I know I’ve said this before and it may be tiresome to some but if I keep telling the same story, day in, day out, it may go back to how it used to be. Actually, no it won’t.

Yep.

Almost inevitable once reports of driver shortage keep appearing.

Peston effect.
