Food / Delivery shortages

Covid?

Brexit?

Both?

I notice it’s taken McDonald’s to run out of milkshakes for it to actually cause people to lose their shit.

I read that 14,000 EU lorry drivers left jobs in the UK since brexit, and only 600 have returned.

Covid caused loss of tests to be cancelled.

Listening to a lorry driver today on the radio in the car. He said the younger generation don’t want to drive lorrys for a living. The long, unsocial hours are a deterrent. They all want to go to university and study arty farty stuff  (his words) It’s a problem that the whole of Europe has to address.

When are you doing your bit and booking your HGV test then?

Just driven over the queens ferry crossing. A wonderful example of what you can achieve with a violin. Remarkable

I’ve just been listening to the Beatles.

A wonderful example of what you can achieve with a degree in plumbing.

Even for you, that post is a bit of a stretch 🙃

The head of the European Road Hauliers Association doesn’t expect many to come as there is a shortage of drivers in Europe. As pointed out earlier by me and TMGJ.

It’s a pickle for sure.

I’m just being mischievous.   I do think some of the posts are bollocks mind. On both sides of the argument.

and anyone that says brexit isn’t impacting the (alleged) shortages on the shelves is of course very wrong.

Indeed

Its added to what would have already been a right shitty situation.

But I’ve got chicken for tea so I don’t know why we need 15,000 extra poultry murderers.

Why should they? They're treated like royalty over there (The EU)...

I notice there's still shitloads of shady fuckers, dossers and deadlegs here (from the EU).

I thought they'd all be rounded up on the 25th June 2016 (or the 1st February 2020 at the latest) - frogmarched to Dover, and pushed off into the Channel on flimsy craft toward France, at cannon-point, Spitfires soaring in the Kent skies, ready to strafe any who made a break for it...

Yet, whilst loads of the 'good' ones have returned home, from the place where they're unwanted, the 'bad' ones seem more reticent to leave a life of pimping, cheap gym memberships and skunk, free rent and poky money, easy shoplifting, plentiful backstreet ad hoc dumping grounds and bountiful custom for their crack dealing enterprises.

I can't understand why there's a HGV driver shortage in the UK...

£10/hr?

There's the problem.

And all the brasses you can murder

£10 an Hour.

For sitting on your arse and refraining from watching Netflix on your dash-mounted iPad, OK, maybe a limit of two or three episodes of a box set per journey.

Safe in the knowledge should you nod off or 'The Wire' become particularly mumbly and requiring extra concentration, that you'll be safe in your cab when you inevitably cause a pile-up.

Maybe a touch of Whiplash for 'work injuries' compo..?

This was voted 'Best HGV Drivers' Joke of all Time'...

Q. How do you make a Hormone?

A. Strike her repeatedly about the head with any heavy blunt object.

I was paid $30/hr (about £16) to drive tractors on a grain farm.

As usual with you Brexity types, it's always someone elses fault/responsibility. "Kids these days should be learning how to drive trucks! No, I didn't drive trucks, but kids these days should! No, not my own kids, other kids!"

Not a clue what your talking about.

I’m new to this thread but just looking back and it seems everything was covered in the first 2 pages.

I suppose if the wages on offer are better than they're currently getting, they may he interested.

Is the rest of Europe on the green list now?

What's wrong with young folk driving trucks?

Job snobbery.

If the industry wants more folk, pay a proper rate and improve conditions. Relied on cheap labour and done alright out of it.

As wages do start to rise, and the pandemic eases further, plenty of those with successful right to remain applications will be tempted to return too.

Because violence against girls and women is already on the rise again.

After a noughties lull where it was as fashionable as a Hackett 'England Flag' Polo Shirt.

Would you want your kids to be a truck driver?

(Most pointless question ever ^).
