  • And as for this tiresome bollocks about pathways in our last two tournaments, do people not realise theres a reason we got those pathways? We avoided groups of death becasue we won every single game i

  • Fuck me we lose one game without a full strength team against a team of shit houses who shithoused themselves half way through the last tournament and the knives are out. It was just one of them

  • Biggest cheers tonight were for the paper planes hitting the pitch. I’ve also learned that being close to Wembley as the crow flies means fuck all when it comes to the tube!   Anyway, 9th/10

Honestly think it's a bit disgraceful that Maguire continues to keep his place.

Absolutely abysmal this season and the fact he isn't able to acknowledge that he's been poor is just as worrying.

I've seen the argument made that because he's never let England down that he deserves his place, in that case best get Joe Hart back in as he's always been decent for England. Can just disregard the fact that he's absolutely garbage now.

You’ve got to have some consistency in your squads though otherwise the squads would be different every time if picked on form alone and you’d never get anywhere

fact is Maguire hasn’t let England down. At all. Pickford went through exactly the same pre the euros and Southgate stuck by him. Had a fantastic tournament and now come out the other side for Everton. Maguire will probably do the same. There’s bigger all round problems at united that have exposed the short comings of his game. That doesn’t happen with England

the spine of the team / squad has to stay relatively stable then you introduce new and fresh at the side of

Agree with that Baz.

So far, Southgate has done brilliantly with the England team, and he will make those key calls as necessary.

Players in the squad won't necessarily play in the first team neither- he's going to look at then and make judgements.

Fair enough.

Yeh then you drop your Tomori’s etc in sparingly. Build up their confidence and get them familiar and comfortable with all that starting regularly for England brings. If poor form of others continues the replacement isn’t as big a risk then

spot on this.

Pickford, Maguire, Stones, Rice & Kane are your nailed on starters

Maguire is awful. Just awful. The shortcomings being lack of pace, reading of the game and positioning.

Remove the rags. We win something.

So the hallmarks of a decent and consistent player are actually Maguire’s weaknesses.
How come the whole of non-DMB fans can see this but Southgate struggles to think of a reason to play someone else?

How's Jordan Henderson not in?

As good as any we have in the position

Maddison should be in there.

Correct and if they can't drop a midfielder to accommodate him, how about one of the eleventyseven defenders or Ben White, who isn't even a footballer.

Can't believe the discussion went so long before sanity prevailed.

Jarrod Bowen definitely deserves his chance

Absolutely. Probably play in the Nations but don't know how he's going to dislodge Sterling. Southgate loves him.

And so he should, hes brilliant.

If we can’t find a better centre half than Maguire we’re wining nowt.

Tbf hes been formidable in our last two competitions.

How many other left sided CBs do we have btw?…

It’s alright saying get rid of a players who’ve been nothing short of superb for England but replace with who?

sterling is as untouchable as Kane and rightly so

Absolutely not. Would you not have him in your squad?

Southgate’s giving him a rest. Said that he knows what he’s getting with him.

He’ll be going to Qatar, no doubt.

Was gonna say if it was the world cup squad I'd want him in it.

These couple of games he shouldn't be needed.

Don't get the Sterling love in. With him we are winning nowt never mind Maguire.

Same with Southgate, have we got so near despite him or because of him? Hope he's learned from Croatia and Italy but I'm not convinced. Time to be defensive but also time to go for it and I don't think he's got it in him. Love to be wrong

No. Not on playing ability. No doubt he’s a leader. Depends what he’d be needed for.

Maguire is the best centre half we have currently. First or Second name on team sheet.

We were a penalty shoot out away from winning the euros and sterling was the player of the tournament.

Hes currently a star in one of the best teams on the planet and won his team the prem on Sunday after changing the game when we came on.

What more would you like him to do?

He cant actually get any higher in the game if he tried.
