Dubious connections. Gambling, human rights etc

Chelsea away at Boro in the cup at the weekend, can't sell anymore away tickets and are asking for the game to be played behind closed doors!

Cheeky twats.

Hopefully they’ll be told to fuck off.

aye, apparently the request was made "for matters of sporting integrity"

er, yeah, it's about late to be worrying about that

Sporting integrity?

Brassnecked feckers

I thought it was so they could recreate the atmosphere of a home game

They will

And if they aren’t i hope Boro sue them

Embarrassing request. Even the Chelsea supporters trust have asked the club to withdraw it.

aye, as some government person has said:

'This statement threatening Middlesbrough and the rest of the football league shows they do not seem to understand the seriousness of the situation they are in, being owned by an entity that has been sanctioned because of links to a person responsible for appalling acts in Ukraine.

'We are not opposed to Chelsea having fans at games in the long run, but we will not allow money from ticket sales to flow to a sanctioned entity.

'Chelsea should spend less time worrying about having a few thousand fans at one game, and focus on moving their club into the hands of someone who isn't linked to a warmonger.'

as Steve Gibson has said:

'Chelsea and sporting integrity do not belong in the same sentence.

'Where is the intellect of Bruce Buck, the chairman of Chelsea, who has been an apologist for his owner, where the trophies won over 19 years have come from the corrupt money provided by Abramovich?

“Where is the intellect of the chairman of Chelsea when it comes to playing his games at home in front of his season ticket holders? Does he want to play all his away games at empty stadiums?'

He went on to add: 'We’re not going to try and help them any more. Abramovich has been kicked out of football and Bruce Buck should be kicked out of football, too.'

And it they win in a closed stadium what happens for the semi?

And if they win the semi what about the final.

As for sporting integrity they bought a place in the EFL without ever having played a competitive match.

Looks like they rescinded the request

As you were, but looking bigger twats than before

Rescinded after being laughed at by the rest of English Football and even by their own Supporters Trust.

Whoever is in charge of their PR should be first off the salary to free up some funds

Agree with this, and the views of others. I was gobsmacked when I heard about it.

I hope Middlesbrough sell out their whole stadium, no away fans, and give them grief for the entire 90+ minutes.

Chelsea get 45% of the gate receipts anyway. Away fans or not.

The idea of no away fans doesn't make any sense.

In which case - why can't they sell tickets? And donate the proceeds to a Ukraine fundraiser. That would make more sense to me.

Not that I've a special place in my heart for Chelsea supporters - but seems a bit harsh on them.

They’re physically unable to sell the tickets as they aren’t allowed to process any transactions. Presumably it might be different for processing invoices and the like.

Not too dissimilar to when we were in admin and had to buy our tickets through Wycombe and Tranmere because BWFC weren’t trusted to hand the money over. I guess we were trusted (take note, Neil) to buy from the away club without any issues, whereas Chelsea having an away game effectively on open sale could theoretically bring out every notright from the last 40 years.
