Ani Posted February 28, 2025 Posted February 28, 2025 Remember when won cricket World Cup every player knew their job.  We now have a couple of batsmen (Root and Duckett) , 2 or 3 bowlers and a bunch whose batting is not good enough nor is their bowling.  But have about 14 who can keep wicket.  Brook will be great player one day and ain’t far off now but the ECB do not play meaningful 50 over cricket preferring the shite that is the Hundred no wonder we do. not produce the right players. Quote

Some valid points although the article bounces around a lot from mens to womens to test to one day and so on. I think a lot of (traditional) English cricket fans, myself included, look at the Mens Test Team as the barometer of where we are. The winter in India was about what you'd expect and we then dominated Windies and Sri Lanka at home (as you'd also expect). This year is the big one. I think we can, and will, beat India at home. The Ashes are intriguing this time. Australia have players out of form / coming to the end of their cycle. If we can bite the bullet with Pope, get a good winter out of Root, keep Stokes fit for 5 Tests and find the right balance in our bowling attack, we have a 'chance'. I still think we'll lose but it'll be closer than some previous series i think. Personally couldn't care less about T20, but do like us to have a competitive 50 Over team. Quote
Casino Posted February 28, 2025 Author Posted February 28, 2025 Im never surprised when we struggle in india, pak, emirates Plus mccullum is just in post Ill judge in 12 months Quote

superjohnmcginlay Posted April 29, 2025 Posted April 29, 2025 I hate cricket, out first ball of the season and out 5th ball last weekend without troubling the scorers.  the fact a 14 year old has done this has questioned my whole approach to retirement.    Quote

The county championship is such a low level I'd probably go off past performances over a longer time span There's been plenty of suggestions Crawley and Pope's places might be under threat (I'm less confident that's true of the former than I am of the latter) and if their centuries in this match by them extra time I'd think that's a poor do If the selectors decide to stick with them, it has to be based on something else Quote
Casino Posted May 23, 2025 Author Posted May 23, 2025 Itll be based on 'gut feel' of the coach Judging anybody on the shambles that is CC would be ridiculous Quote
BobyBrno Posted June 3, 2025 Posted June 3, 2025 They all want to watch the England!😊 https://www.cricket.com.au/news/4277330 Quote

I've been forced to go to a few Ashes games in this country (due to work) and I've seen good and bad - I'd imagine it's so much better in Australia, where at least it's warm. My last experience was at the top of that shit scaffold stand at Old Trafford, when it was windy and pissing it down. Quote

Typically 15 to 30,000 at each match historically. That party stand, I’m one of a team of sellers that sell draw tickets for the big matches. I’m the only one who ventures up that stand. I sell loads. I think the buyers take pity on me for making the effort.😊 Quote

Still, it was a day off work on the piss 😃 Quote
BobyBrno Posted June 5, 2025 Posted June 5, 2025 Love stuff like this. Met Stato in some far away place one night. Didn’t spend much time with him but would have loved to spend more. Not in a gay way.   Quote
MancWanderer Posted June 11, 2025 Posted June 11, 2025 Thoroughly enjoyed the ODI and T20 series against the Windies. We looked very good but I’ll temper that with how poor they were overall Eldest daughter has got us tickets for Day 4 against India at Old Trafford for some red ball. Sort of hoping one of the first 3 days is a washout as day 4 in tests isn’t usually an exciting day these days 😀 Quote
BobyBrno Posted June 12, 2025 Posted June 12, 2025 Not England but this World Test Championship probably won’t go into day 4. The Aussies are vulnerable. (They’ll probable still win this) Quote
BobyBrno Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Tough day. Posted before the end hoping that I can be proved wrong. 😞 Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Perhaps the wrong decision taken at the toss Quote
