If you look at defenders in L1 past & present  they score a good few goal, yes his jobs to defend but attacking wise he offers nothing  when really for his size and being a good header of the ball should, aimson & johnston have assists & goals under their belts since joining

some won’t like this but santos ain’t fit to lace wheater or beevers boots

I liked Wheater, good defender and good character and scored plenty, but found wanting for pace in his later years, and you wouldn't want him playing the Evatt way, out from the back.  Santos has his faults but his passing is the best I've seen from a Bolton defender in donkeys years.  Fact that he's captain is also a reason he'll come straight back in (Lee is great, but no captain).  But if Santos is "75% fit" (whatever that means) let's not rush him back, the replacements are decent.

Aimson is a very solid dependable defender. I can’t say a bad word about it where that’s concerned. But the way we play and what Evatt expects of his defenders isn’t just about defending. Santos as our leading CB, captain and probably best 1v1 defender waltzes straight back in. Not even a debate

the one who should be looking over his shoulder is Jones. Toal is coming on very strongly indeed

I also liked wheater

In his younger days he was a very good player and even at our he was decent

I actually think he couldve been an evatt player

Beevers though, fucking hell

5 iron

You sure boss

Oh, try a 7

Ive only got a 5

5 is is then

It’s L1 football does what is says on the tin

beevers did the job we went up

Not sure why folk are so bothered if CB can spray a good ball

If they have a mix of both they aren’t playing L1

Makes me think of the Matt Mills floaty pass into WSL every game.

Ah, those were the days :)

Random stat:

Mark Beevers - 121 appearances, 11 goals.

Elias Kachunga - 52 appearances, 2 goals.

But kachunga works hard apparently

And has scored 6 league goals in 127 appearances since the start of the 2017/18 season.

Conor Bradley has 6 in 28 in all comps this season.

Admittedly, I have no coaching badges, but I fail to see what EK brings to the party.

For a glorious period when their careers overlapped, Mills would hit it into WSL then Knight would launch it into ESL, not sure who was worse in possession.  I'll go with Knight on the basis he was probably getting paid about 3 times as much.

Neither of them are good enough tbh.

Was surprised to see Kachunga come on before Bod. Unless JDB isn't properly right following his surgery.  If all 4 are fit as backup to the 1st choice of Charles and Dapo id say Bod, Baka are the best 2 in reserve with Sadlier and Kachunga getting splinters on the bench.

Wouldn't be too fussed if Baka,  sadlier and kachunga left in Jan if we can use the wages on someone to challenge for a starting place.

He's nowhere near good enough. We cannot rely upon him when the moment comes to it, which can be the difference between promotion or not.

His chance yesterday, his performances all season and his statistics all back that up.

If we are going to be a more goal scoring and punishing relentless team, it's going to have to be a team without players such as Kachunga.

Looking defensively, I've been really impressed with the current back 3 who all defend aggressively.

I would really like to see a back 3 of Johnston, Santos and Toal. I think this is our best lineup, with Gethin and Aimson on the bench.

Toal looks fantastic. Can do all the good defending, but is also not fazed by pressing strikers, carries the ball out and can even provide an attacking threat like yesterday with a great delivery from outwide.

I've also been surprised by his recoveries and acceleration at times. Johnston 24 years old, Rico 27, Toal at 23. Could be a solid partnership for years to come hopefully.

  • The topic was unpinned

Johnston needs to be the next one offered a longer term deal, he's going to be quality

I can't think of one thing hes actually done to warrant it bar not being Kachunga.

8 goals in 35 appearances, mostly off the bench, is good

There are 4-5 players I'd let go before him

Exactly.

Only 12 players contracted past this summer, some big decisions to be made

Traff and Bradley from the 1st XI will need replacing too.

I've no idea what his best position is even meant to be?

If we are talking midfield hes never done anything of note to command a place. Hes not fit to lace Kieron Lees boots and hes fuck all chance of getting anywhere near further up top. Id have bod and baka in front of him and that's not even bringing Dapo into it.

He will end up at a club below us at best.

He's a winger/wide forward and we don't play with either of those.

So why did he sign him
