  1. Move the ball quicker through the lines, drop Maghoma his style of play slows down our transition passing, drop JDC his final ball is appalling, start Collins and have him drop into the pockets to collect the ball and be the creative force in the final 3rd. Couple of simple fixes, the pedestrian passing in low impact areas does nothing but bump up possession stats that Evatt can tug himself off on camera to.
  2. I will, admittedly, always be quicker to sour on Evatt than most because I simply don't like the bloke. Think he's an arrogant, insufferable, bellend. I tolerate him for as long as he is improving and advancing our position as a club, but the longer we languish at this level the less that becomes the case. He will obviously get the rest of this year, but for my money we won't have enough, next season he gets until Christmas to have us as overwhelming standouts or it's curtains for me.
  3. Playoffs and bottle it in the semi again because this team doesn't have the minerals.
  4. Aye, always had no time for being annoyed at the opposition celebrating. If you don't like it, beat them.
  5. I've lumped on Wigan to win by more than 2 clear goals. If nothing else it'll soften the blow.
  6. Great city, the square, castle, river, Jewish Quarter all just nice places to be and all easily walkable together. Great food every where you turn as well, it's not just a cheap booze destination. Auschwitz as sobering and depressing as it is, is a must.
  7. I grew up in Culcheth, a decent amount of young fans developed over my youth in their years in the Prem. Cheap seats, easy to get to, can watch their "main" team play (United, Liverpool, Everton), could see why; but then they got a weird sense of entitlement as a fanbase. I find Wigan weird, love to beat them to put them in their place but never really saw them as "rivals" until these recent lower league years. On their rise to the Prem I actually almost looked out for their results, in a local team doing well sort of way. Hard to really hate a club when that's my prevailing thought of them as minnows fighting up the leagues, the fans will filter away now the Prem days are long gone and they'll drift down eventually to a natural level.

    Injuries

I really wish people would stop calling Thomason our best midfielder, makes me a bit ill. He's currently the best we've got to play that deeper "ball winning" role supporting Sheehan but he's far from our best midfielder in any other regard.
  9. Lonergan's song was to the tune of Mrs Robinson, one of the better ones from memory. He came in to my work the other week, sound fella by the way, and I very professionally resisted the temptation to serenade him with it.
  10. I know it's risky stuff from openers but I do like how they both like to get bat to ball, get the scoring rate up early on and try and get the bowlers on the back foot, reclaiming those early overs for the batsmen in theory. It gets the pair of them in a bit of bother losing wickets in the teens and twenties but it ain't half fun to watch.
  11. My recollection of the Sordell signing was we spent all summer trying to get Wilfried Zaha to sign and when he finally told us to sling it we only had a few days of the window left, so we panicked and went after another England U21 forward based on nothing but word of mouth.
  12. I think any changes that give this crop of referees more power and influence in games is a bad idea.
  13. Why should he answer it? Why does it matter? Why do you care?
  14. Suppose it depends on the context of the losses if they happen, couple of embarrassing/inept defeats and could have an impact into other more winnable games.
  15. It's always been the case for me, felt we've been looking at the wrong end for a long time. First through the door should have been a CB before these injuries.
  16. I get that, he's approaching his ceiling ability wise. Thing for him is his attitude and workrate can push him beyond where his natural ability would limit him to. Until his legs go at least. Whereas Doyle could last longer because that natural striker instinct was there.
  17. I posted this in the Transfer Rumours thread but it's actually more relevant in here I suppose. With us looking very very light in a few areas, does feel like it starts to unravel slightly with just one injury/suspension in a couple of key positions. None of the B Team lads really seem to get a sniff though, which seems a shame, could really do with this set up bearing some fruit soon. Khumbeni when I've seen him has looked decent, surprised he's not been in first team squads more, especially with our lack of that type of ball winning deeper midfielders. The CBs not progressing is the most disappointing for me though, got Toure and Yoro who have been around for a couple of years now and not got a look in, plus that Hayes-Green we signed from Liverpool in the summer who I'm told is a left sided centre half. Any one watch or know more of those younger lads than I do?

  19. Sounds like the Aussies not playing well at all in his absence. Only ahead thanks to a stinker of a penalty decision.
  20. Yeah I wasn't meaning particularly for the next game. Just that the squad, technically, is capable of lining up with a Back 4 with wide men.
  21. Could in theory go to a 4-2-3-1 and have Williams and CMG as the wide men. Baxter JDC - Toal - Santos - Iredale/Ashworth Sheehan - Thomason Williams - Dempsey - CMG Charles
  22. Aye, Thomason is left footed as well, none of them are natural centre halves though.
  23. I do agree, ideally we'd have 2 in as cover while we wait on Geth, Forrester and Johnston (Not sure he'll make it back this year) becoming available again. But for my money, through injuries or not, I think we're now going to be starting our strongest and most balanced 3 in Toal, Santos, Iredale. It's just the issues that arise if one of them were to pick up a knock or worse, biggest weakness for me is needing another left footed option, really imbalances us on the ball without that option. Luke Mbete available still....?
  24. Not getting rave reviews according to twitter. Giving some journos and fans license to claim A League is a similar or higher level to League 1. Possibly some of the most openly disrespectful stuff I've read in a long time. Your average A Leaguer would do well to find regular football at National League level over here.
  25. I actually think it's the opposite style we'd come across more and struggle with, ones with a bit more pace and intelligence that won't let his harrying about bother them as much. It's the lumps down at this level that he's having the joy against, forcing errors and running off their shoulder, higher you go less of them you see. I think he'd be fine though as the secondary striker, pressing and supplying a partner, just need another man up there that's more about being in and around the box with better composure and timing. We'd need to find our own Pukki or Piroe type.
